When you have hormone positive breast cancer, how to manage menopause?
Hi
I just finished breast cancer surgery and radiation I was taken off my HRT last October. I am 65 I have major menopause symptoms and wondered what women do that have had a breast cancer and are not allowed to take estrogen to get through this phase of life. I cannot sleep because of the hot flashes all night and now I have to start tamoxifen 5 mg which I'm hoping does not increase my night sweats I miss my estrogen/Progesterone and I'm at a loss. Is there anything you can take to help I just feel ill all the time. Anyone else have this kind of experience. I was on bioidentical hormones my cancer is estrogen progesterone positive HRT negative. My oncologist did put me on vagifem thank god for my bladder issues

Hi
I have only met 1 person locally whi was able to tolerate the meds. I have an appointment this Thursday with my oncologist so I know he's going to discuss the AIS with me I really don't know what I'm going to do . I had dcis with a very microscopic break in 1 wall nodes were clear
Hi
I did not qualify for an oncotype test. How many milligrams did you do?
I don't personally know anyone who suffered terrible side effects on AI's and some seemed to have none at all.
@sue417 I don't understand your question. If you were ER+ and HER2- why didn't you have an Oncotype? You can still have one. There is one for DCIS as well.
The results are very different than what pathology suggests, for some of us. My cousin unexpectedly needed chemo (dspite grade 1) and I unexpectedly did not (despite grade 3).
These meds treat hormonal cancers by reducing estrogen below detectable levels. They have spared many many women from chemo (as has the Oncotype). I am not sure what alternative there would be that could effectively remove hormonal risk.
Hi
That frustrates me. I asked again and my London oncologist said you have to have an invasive cancer for that test. I did not. I am going to ask my oncologist here on thursday when I see him
@sue417 show your doctor this

Hi
I have asked for this test prior to radiation treatment. I asked after treatment was told no. I also asked for tge decision rx test after surgery was told no. It's very frustrating
Sorry had the name wrong its DCISion Rt test
I believe that everyone’s body is different than everyone receives medication differently. It’s worth a try for six months and see how it goes from there. Your doctor will give you several options. Stay open minded I did not have to go on them at all, but I would take a chance and get it six months. I will probably go back a different version another few weeks, best wishes us posted . Hugs

I too had IDC & hormone positive & had to give up my HRT which I loved. If you are looking for something for hot flashes/sweat, VEOZAH is the bomb. It works & no side effects. The only problem is it’s $600 a month. You can get a card that will cut the cost from your oncologist or go online & sign up or see if your insurance will pay for it, Medicare won’t. Wishing you & all of us on this journey strength & love.
