Hi All-
I was just diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer-a rare tumor type MMMT. Had Radical Abdominal Hysterectomy, removed appendix, omentum, a few lymph nodes. It was considered optimal debulking. Now on my third round of Taxol/Carboplatin with just a few bumps in the road. Would love to share info with other Ovarian Cancer women. Cancer is not for the weak. Stay strong and positive.

Hi Joanne-
Nice to meet you. I will defiantly check out Inspire. Is that through this group or how do I access that groupo?
Best of luck in your continued stability.

@caf132 Welcome to Mayo Connect. I'm so glad that you found us! While I don't have ovarian cancer, I too have a rare form of malignancy, NET, and it certainly is disconcerting. I like what you say about staying strong and positive! Best wishes you connect and seek support. Keep us posted as to how you are doing and best wishes, Teresa

Go to the OCRFA web site. They sponsor the Inspire community. You can join the Ovarian cancer group and any others you are interested in. You can also "friend" specific people once you are a member. Some of these ladies are very knowledgable but like all sites, sometimes info that might not be completely accurate is posted. Just run everything by your doc. Be sure to read Friday's posts by Rabbitgal. She is a hoot!

@rena42 Hi Rena: Let me add my welcome to you as well. Mayo Connect is a great way to share our journeys with cancer and other chronic illnesses. I joined Mayo Connect this spring right after I was diagnosed with my third recurrence of a rare malignancy, neuroendocrine tumor. I know that a cancer diagnosis can really take the "wind out of your sails" for a while, but once you find sure footing again you will find hope. Please feel free to share as much of your story as you wish, we would love to get to know you better. In the meantime, best wishes as you continue on your healing journey.

I completed chemo in September. Had carbo, taxol and avastin. Have continued with the avastin every three weeks. I believe it is keeping me in remission, along with lots of prayer. It's been eleven months and I'm feeling great. There are some side effects which do cause more problems for some the longer your on the drug. I started with a lot of joint pain when I was on all three drugs. Have some continued discomfort but can tolerate it just fine. The one thing that it does have a big impact on is my blood pressure. I'm now on three medications for HBP because of the avastin. Your doc ahould monitor that closely. At WI in RI they will stop avastin if pressure goes over 150. Overall I think it's a great drug.
