Radio frequency ablation in liver Mets
Hello Fam..!!
Does anyone have idea about Radio frequency ablation of liver lesion in mets? How effective is that? What is the procedure? Any drawbacks?
My Dad is Ca pancreas patient. He had 12 rounds of folfirinox before surgery and 2 rounds of folfirinox post Whipple's. Whipple's was done in Aug 31,2023. Now liver mets after 7 months of Whipple's. Now he has undergone 3 rounds of gem/abraxane. Now RFA is scheduled after 1 week. Any advice?

I hope it does. It's been only one cycle. The scans are yet to be done.
Also please let me know more about the clinical trial if you have any info.
Can anyone tell me what to expect following Y90? I am scheduled for this soon. I have one tiny liver met near my stomach so Y90 was suggested. After mapping, it was determined that Y90 will be administered at a lower dose but will target the entire left line of my liver. Apparently chemo changes to my veins makes it difficult to just target the tumor but they still feel this is a good option.
Will recovery be more difficult now that a larger area has to be targeted??
Appreciate any input. Just preparing myself. Thanks.
Hi @mehtapdanisir, welcome. I used Google translate to translate your message from Turkish to English.
"Hello, I am Mehtap, writing from Turkey. My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 2 months ago, she could not undergo surgery because she had liver metastasis, she is currently receiving her 3rd chemotherapy, gemcitabine and capecitabine are being used, folfinox chemotherapy could not be given because she is 73 years old and she cannot handle it, the doctors said.
These medications also cause palpitations, numbness in the legs, and weakness as side effects.
I wonder if anyone has tried other treatment options and got results.
Nerve blockade was also performed for pain.
Their pain has decreased much more."

I had this. The recovery is almost nothing.
You will be sore where the line went in and you will want to stay in and take it easy for a day or two. Other than that, it was easy peezy. I believe they prescribed a few days of pain medicine but I didn’t really need it.
I hope it is effective for you!
Thank you, Anindita! My GAC chemo is working currently, but you never know as things can change quickly if you have an aggressive version of PAN-C (as I seem to). Hoping and praying for everyone that cures are found. I believe our different mutations will respond to different types of cures - there’s not just one solution as your mutation(s) drive cellular behavior.
Hello, I read about ablation radio frequency (aka histotripsy) given to stage 4 pancreatic cancer patient with 4 liver Mets.
95% success rate on liver Mets so she could have Whipple. This treatment was suggested by Dr. Christoper Wolfgang (world famous surgeon) at NYU Langone who did her Whipple surgery after that treatment. .
