Hello all water bottle users. Here is something I learned many years before MAC and Bronchiectasis. It was taught by my hiking club friends in Arizona, where desert fever can be an issue.
All reusable water bottles, pitchers, hydration packs and straws need to be scrubbed regularly (not neccesarily daily) with a brush, hot water and detergent then rinsed thoroughly to prevent biofilm from forming. Simply soaking or running them through the dishwasher is not enough. Biofilm is where mycobacteria and other pathogens hide and grow.
For LifeStraw, Steripen and other devices, follow the manufacturers directions.
My friends used to think it was silly until I showed them pink slime forming in the threads on a water bottle cover.

Thank you. Will do!

Is filtered water from the refrigerator ok? My husband changes the filter regularly. The water comes from our complexes own water system, not city water.
