Anyone used low residue diet if having diverticulitis type pain?

I've had diverticulitis attacks numerous times throughout the years. About 15 years ago I had a left hemicolectomy and things have gone well since. Seven days ago I began having pain in my left ?flank--just below my waist. (Could be diverticulitis or adhesions.) It has not gotten any worse but no better either. I don't have fever nor diarrhea. I've been having BM's daily. It is most painful when I cough or have a BM. Otherwise, I carry on with any normal activities. Two days ago I put myself on a low residue (cut out fiber) diet to see if I can get things to settle down. Wondering if anyone had had success with this method?? Thanks much.

Yes. When you do start having the pain you should try liquid diet for a couple of days and then go to low residue.
If you can take an anti-inflammatory, you should do immediately.
The low fiber diet is great to help heal, and you need to make sure and drink more than usually.

But, since you had the surgery I would call your Dr. You only have the pain in your side and no other diverticulitis symptoms. I would check for adhesions first.

Thanks for the reply. You're correct in that I should do a liquid diet first but I waited as we were traveling and I did not have a lot of options. I did base what I did on the fact that there was just the one symptom. Today, (4 days after beginning the low residue diet) all symptoms are gone. So glad it worked. I feel this is, most likely, something that will recur again. I will discuss it with my primary at my appt. in a couple of weeks. Again, thanks.
