Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?
Hi All,
I received my first Evenity injection two weeks ago. Everything was going well, did not even have injection site pain. But the last couple of days I have had joint and muscle pain especially in my neck and upper back, Lower back and arms. I've read the drug peaks around 7 to 14 days. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone else experienced this and if these side effects subside? Is there anything you take before or after the injection to relieve this pain? It is very uncomfortable. Thank you!

Thanks @windshores. I'll be interested to hear how you do with Reclast.
@drsuefowler my doctors are nervous about Reclast for me, which isn't reassuring. Afib is one concern that seems to have eased (I have it once in awhile, dramatically) but my nephrologist is worried about my kidneys. Hence the low dose, slow infusion, IV hydration. I'll post about it.
Thank you. Please share any updates you have. I have to decide soon.
Thanks @windyshores. I was wondering about kidney damage with all these infusions. I don't think it is good for our health to have yearly and biannual infusions. I'll be interested in how things work out for you. I so much appreciate your comments and suggestions.
@drsuefowler Perhaps I've already mentioned this to you but just so others reading these threads discussing Evenity side effects don't get too depressed I'll repeat this - Evenity does not always or even often cause noticeable side effects. Even in sensitive people.
I've been severely food and chemically sensitive for over 40 years and I'm (knock on wood) having only the slightest side effects with Evenity. By slight I mean I get mildly stimulated from the injection and that lasts through the day of the shot. I get a slight pressure in my forehead which does not get bad enough to be called a headache. In contrast my eating the wrong food (and most all foods fit in the wrong food category for me) or smelling the wrong odor can wreck my day. Quite amazing to me how very very little trouble I'm having with Evenity.
But I am not discounting the experience of others who are having really unpleasant side effects, not at all - I just wanted to say that the odds for any given person even those sensitive types, may not be very high?
I do find it strange that all the osteoporosis meds seem to have pretty awful side effects for some while others have little to no side effects. Such a huge range of reactions to these drugs!
I wish it was more clear what percentage of us have the bad side effects to the different osteoporosis meds. And of course we need some means to predict who might or might not react badly.
Myself as I'm past shot 7 of Evenity, am most worried about the next med.
I try to emphasize that my Evenity side effects are extremely extremely rare and everyone I know does really well on it. I have other health conditions that might make me prone to reactions.
Tymlos worked well for me, but might not for someone else.
@drsuefowler I have a preexisting kidney condition. As I have written before, I have a friend who met me for lunch after a full Reclast infusion with no prep and she didn't even know there was any concern. She was 100% fine.
I know that posts about side effects can scare people and represent more than their fair share of posts, because people doing well tend not to post! Negative posts combined with the required lists of side effects on ads and drug websites create a lot of fear. I feel badly for posting about an unusual side effect!
Most of us will find something we can tolerate and there are flexible approaches like starting at a lower dose that can help too.
@windyshores in case you think I was being critical of posts talking about side effects of Evenity I was not intending to do that. And I think your posts are great.
I said what I said in part because when I read of others terrible side effects I find myself getting discouraged even though I'm having no problems at all. So many stories of bad side effects with these meds can get to be overwhelming. But we all need to know the problems with these meds. Just wanted to place a reminder that Evenity may not present any problems at all.
Thanks @awfultruth. I am like you, sensitive to almost all medications. It is encouraging to hear from you that have only slight side effects with Evenity. Good luck with your results and your next medication.
@awfultruth not at all, didn't think you were being critical and your post was really helpful and reassuring for people.
I try to balance my posts because I remember how scared I was of side effects. I want people who do have strange effects to not feel alone, but also want to make sure it is clear my experience is rare and unlikely. So it was just worth saying it again!
I am so glad you are doing well!
kwteacher, nausea is listed on this https://medbroadcast.com/drug/getdrug/evenity#:~:text=signs%20of%20a%20serious%20allergic,%3B%20vomiting%3B%20sweating%3B%20anxiety)
site as a serious reaction indicating you should stop the medication. I am unfamiliar with the accuracy of this site.
