Small PSA Rise: What might be the cause?

I completed proton beam therapy October 30th 2023 for one core Gleason score 3+6 and I took my third PSA test last week having a small rise.

My original PSA was originally 4.8 prior to the biopsy and the proton beam therapy)and went down to 3.5 and then 2.2 and yesterday's results were 2.66. I had a hamstring injury over the last four weeks - still healing and I'm wondering if that could've affected the PSA because the groin did have some pressure. I am seeing my doctor this Friday. I welcome your comments.

I highly doubt that my neurologist will send me out for a scan for such a
very small voice I still feel it's totally related to the hamstring injury
which effected the groin.

Glad you're mindfully watching your PSA at this stage of your prostate journey. I am 3.4 months in on the journey it gets checked every 3 months. What I like is that data gets placed into my treatment plan for tracking. From my perspective PSA results make very useful data points.

I only provide this (sorry the whole fisrt part is missing) so readers might know how frustation can jsut knock you down and it is a horrible feeling when you are sick...was on Phone with MCA and chatting with ACS....not a good day...

Hi, Thomas. Thank you for chatting in again. I shared some information in our previous chat that you may not have seen. Please give me a moment to share it here.
You can call your doctor's office or send a message on your patient portal, if you have access to that. Your doctor should be able to explain why they told you that. We have some information on PSA tests during treatment for advanced prostate cancer. I am sharing some of that information below and a link where you can read more. We do not have recommendations for how often these tests should be done, however. If you are running into some conflicting guidelines about this, I recommend asking the people who are giving you this information.

"When treatments such as hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy are used for more advanced prostate cancer, the PSA level can help show how well the treatment is working or when it might be time to try a different treatment....if the cancer has spread outside the prostate, the actual PSA level is often not as important as the direction and speed with which it changes."

my ?s r about Ins and MCA and my doc and my bone cancer w 3 mutations ie = one of the most aggressive strains .....
Only your doctor and your health insurance can explain to you what they have told you. We do not have information on what your doctor said or what your insurance will cover.
My ins DOES NIOT COVER blood test ONLY MCA does....you should know that if you work with CANCER

my doctor is saying 3x a yr is his limit for tests...MCA told me just now----< 5min ago that MCA pays 1x a yr after 50 yrds old and then when "medically necessary"

With all due respect, it isn't reasonable to expect organizations like the American Cancer Society to answer questions like those you posed on the chat. You need to press your medical providers for the explanations for their recommendations.

ok. I saw my urologist-he informed me that the hamstring has nothing to do with the PSA rise it was just a "bump@ and I will be on active surveillance for 18 months - hopefully it will go down.

Eat some mushrooms and be grateful your not on ADT. On ADT my PSA is < .01. Finished my RT last March 2023. Stage 4, two pelvic lynmph nodes affected. Thanks to Agent Orange.

Riding a bicycle affects PSA

yes he told me that two years ago and I no longer have a bicycle. Anything that will aggravate the prostate before and after probe therapy who make a rise in the PSA so I have to behave myself for the next 12 weeks

I continue to walk 3 miles daily which is good and I'm eating very healthy food.
