The joint in my lower thumb is bone to bone does anyone know anything about stem cell for that area. Does it work? Is it terribly expensive . Do they even do it.

I, too, have terrible osteoarthritis in both my hands and wrists; it came on REALLY fast, basically within a little over a year. I was off work for seven months (June -January) on short-term disability and have recently rejoined the workforce and the pain sometimes is just horrible that I can't sleep at night. I’ve always worked with my hands and can’t believe that all of a sudden, I can hardly make a fist or sometimes do regular everyday tasks without help or using my other hand for strength. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands in November of last year, two weeks apart, and also had a trigger thumb and finger fixed at the same time. Both hands were great; now, just about every finger has pain. They did blood work last week, and everything is within normal limits, so thankfully, I don't have anything wrong with me, but I also don't have any answers or any ideas for the pain either. I’d really appreciate any help you can provide.
Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry you are suffering so with osteoarthritis. This is a great place to gather information on what has worked for others.
If you haven't been you might want to be tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis. It often begins in the hands and is bilateral. The medications are quite effective. You might as well have an ANCA panel at the same draw.
If its the thumb joint as you describe, Its osteo. I have RA and am reasonably well controlled, but I also have osteo in that joint. And there is nothing to do. Heat, cold, ibuprofen etc.
FYI, RA doesn’t typically attack the most distal finger joints or the most proximal thumb joint.
I had a ANA, CBC, CRP and a metabolic panel and all my numbers were within limits. So no RA, stick is great but no answers either. Was told to start 100mg gabapentin twice a day and increase as I tolerate and also take an NSAID
My friend told me about Vital Protien with Collagen, the one Jennifer Aniston is the spokesperson and she and her other friend swear it works as my friend has RA also. Then my sister showed me a picture of this, I guess it’s made in Minnesota. Has anyone heard of used any of either one of these? If so, what’s your thoughts?
