What is a good post blockage diet.
Had energency diverticulitis surgery 7 years ago and recently ended up in the hospital due to partial blocked small intestin. Took 3 days of NP tube to unblock. I'm looking for a good diet to gradually bring this 70 year old gut back to life without making it angry again.

Thank you...I've had one resection a year after my colorectal surgery. Recently had prostrate procedure that involved narcos and ended up with the blockage. Evidently I had some partial blockage all along and was dealing with it on and off not thinking it was just my reduced colon. I will take your advice and change accordingly.
I've had multiple obstructions due to adhesions and currently have several strictures in my small intestine. The diet for avoiding blockages is called low residue, you can Google it for a full list of foods. Basically it's low fiber and no roughage as those things that are hard to digest can get stuck in the nooks and crannies and narrowing in the intestines and lead to a blockage.
I have had several small bowel blockages and had 3 bowel obstruction surgeries. I now only have 2ft of my small intestines and I am lucky to still have all of my large intestines.
My diet after small bowel obstructions was soft easy to digest foods. Blend foods in a blender. Fluids with sodium and glucose in them will help absorb fluids better than plan water.
Stay away from:
High fiber food
Leaf salads
Raw veggies
Legumes
Fruit with skin
Corn
Alcohol
Bread
Eat:
Lamb, chicken, lean beef preferably in stews or soups chewing on the twenty count
Squash soup emulsified
Mashed potatoes
Pasta (not al dente) chew on the twenty count
Cream of wheat
Eggs
This got me through my last ileus event.
Cooked
I am being completely sarcastic here:
Best 3 diets: ALL liquid, nothing except Miralax, just die.
Who knew THIS would be such a prominent and PAINFUL topic?
