After knee replacement surgery
Had left knee replaced 9 days ago. Right knee two years ago. Having a problem with inflammation so hard to bend knee and exercise. Trying to ice and raise knee above heart. Doctor suggested getting compression hose. Anybody have this experience and can offer suggestions. So tired all the time from pain interrupting my sleep and painkillers. My insurance refused to pay for the painkiller recommended by surgeon so have to take one with more opiates. That's frustrating. Two years ago it was covered but now too expensive for me to use. Seems the drug companies, not our doctors are determining what we use.

Hi JK @contentandwell, I wear 20 - 30 mg compression socks prescribed by my doctor for the lymphedema. I tried the 15 - 20 which I like better ☺ but they don't quite provide enough compression to help with my swelling. I buy mostly black compression socks and wash them in a net bag to keep them from getting lost in the wash. My fashion is whatever goes with Levi's works for me ☺ Stopped wearing suits and ties when I left the field with IBM and transferred to the plant as a tech writer.
@johnbishop Guess the color won't matter then
@johnbishop My husband rarely wears suits any more either, just for weddings and funerals basically. He needs a new one for our son's wedding. He is best man and my son wants him to have a navy blue suit.
JK
@contentandwell - That is great information about the compression socks.
PS: When @johnbishop buys his polka dot socks, I hope he will post a picture for us.
Sigh, my fun bamboo socks that are not compression so they sit lonely in my sock drawer but may make their way to a homeless shelter when I get my act together. Before I was diagnosed with lymphedema and had to start wearing compression socks I found that bamboo thread socks were the most comfortable, soft, stretchy socks available - easy on, easy off and added some color to my somewhat drab outfits (jeans and sweatshirts for winter and jeans on similar attire for the spring, summer and fall). It's nice being an old guy. Nobody expects you to be up on all the latest fashions. ☺
hahaha John
beatricefay I would get the meds you want from Canada - I can give you company I've dealt with. When Mom fell into Donut Hole, had to make decision re paying $$$s for American meds - or go without. > I ordered from CANADA.
I've had advice re Supp Hose: put under pillow - when I wake up, Do Not put Feet on floor, put on sox before blood goes to feet. Makes sense.
@johnbishop @debbraw The young guys love crazy socks. My son wears some really cute ones. I gave him some with tacos on them and he loves them. He wears them with business suits!
I had my striped compression socks on the other day when my sister was visiting and she told me that witches wear striped socks! Who knew? 😉
JK
JK, did you ask your sister how does she know? ☺ I probably would have wiggled my nose at her and circled my finger at her and asked if she would like to hear some incantations.
@johnbishop Good question. I suspect she learns these things from her granddaughters when they get dressed up for Halloween. I like your idea though.
