Anyone experiencing nausea/vomiting with Abiraterone?

Posted by robertmizek @robertmizek, Apr 12 6:07pm

I will be starting Abiraterone and Orgovyx this week. My doctor also prescribed compazine for nausea and vomitting. Reading the List of possible side effects I see nausea listed. Is anyone on this form experiencing this and how bad is/was it?

Been on Arbiterone almost two years, no nausea, no vomiting, but I do need to get in two naps a day or just lay down- appears to make me fatigued. My Trelstar shot in my butt every 3 months is EZ. Other side effects are in my opinion are constipation/ so I take prunes- vegetable pills called penna I believe. My arms are now like prune skin but I still exercise the arms/ legs- 3x a week. Arbiterone says : you might gain weight. I have not due to my daily activity’s and eating the right foods daily. Hope this helps. Been 180 pounds for 25 years pills or not.

I have been on Abiraterone for about 5 months, seems okay, I also am on Prednisone which is suppose to help with side effects of the Abiraterone. I haven't had any stomach problems, I had read top two sides were stomach, both ends, got my attention but have not had that problem. Pretty pricey med but with my insurance is okay. Best to you.

it's listed at $4700 a month, after I reach my deductible which seems to come quick, I have to pay $5 a month which of course is okay. Earlier in the year I got tagged for $880 which of course hurt. I understand it keeps me going but my goodness. Best to you

I thought I’d update my post for the possible benefit of others regarding Abiraterone (Zytiga) and Orgovyx.

I started Orgovyx 3 full weeks ago. I felt “off” for the first 3 days but then my body adjusted and the side effects were tolerable and my quality of life was very good. I added Abiraterone (Zytiga) two weeks ago and after the first full week of adding Abiraterone my QoL became poor. Every day was a struggle. I felt like I had the flu. Headache, body aches, brain fog, crushing fatigue, mild nausea plus 2-3 hot flashes per hour. I told my wife that unless things improved I was going to tell my oncologist that I needed to stop taking it.

Now here’s why I’m making this post: I noticed that 10-12 hours after taking Zytiga I started to feel better. Good enough to get things done that I couldn’t get done during the day! My oncologist previously recommended that I consider taking my Zytiga during the middle of the night if when I get up to urinate so I wouldn’t have to wait an hour before taking it or waiting two hours after a meal to take it. Based on that flexibility I decided to take my full dose the first time I got up to pee to see if that helped. Viola’ it did! So far I’ve had the best results if I take it around 1am. I wake up feeling good with little more than the occasional hot flash and manageable fatigue. I may try taking it when I turn in for the night at 11pm. If I get better results, I’ll report that on the forum.

To be clear, I’m not giving medical advice, just sharing my experience. If you’re having severe side effects with Abiraterone (Zytiga) you should contact your doctor to see if changing the time that you take your prescription is advisable.

Best wishes for a good quality of life for all who read this.
