Waiting time for hip replacement

Posted by susan298 @susan298, Apr 16 7:09am

I scheduled a hip replacement at UNC Chapel Hill in November 2023. At that time, there was a six month waiting list. The surgery was scheduled for next month, May 2024, and yesterday I received a call that it has been cancelled because my surgeon is leaving UNC. I was told someone would "reach out to me in the next couple of weeks"!!!!!!!
I am curious about others' wait times to schedule hip replacement surgery.

My wait time at Grand Traverse Orthopaedics in Traverse City, Michigan was three weeks.

Wow. I am sorry to hear this. I guess I am fortunate to live in a city with some options.
I interviewed three different surgeons at three different hospitals and chose the 3rd one.
He did a great job. I scheduled the surgery about a month out from that initial meeting with him.

Yes, it can be a long wait. I am in S. California. My 1st surgery date: 7 months wait. When it was cancelled, the new date was 1 month later. When that date was cancelled, the new date was 2 months later. When that one was cancelled, the new date is in May is a 3 1/2 month wait! I hope I can get my procedure done finally! There are long waits here to have an Orthopedic visit.

I feel sorry for you, I have felt hip pain and its no fun at all. It took me a few months to decide to have it done but aside from the thigh pain I am experiencing the last couple months I am glad I had it done. Had my left hip done a few years ago and that puts stress on your other hip which is what happened to me. Good luck and pray you find relief soon.
