Hard Fall

Posted by susanfalcon52 @susanfalcon52, Apr 15 6:55am

Well, yesterday I had a very hard fall onto a brick patio. I stayed there for a bit waiting to be rescued. When no rescue came, I got up and walked around.
I hurt all over, but no fractures. Hoping this is due to my 11 months on Evenity and the previous treatment with Tymlos and Forteo.

@susanfalcon52 - so glad you are ok! That is such a scary predicament.

@susanfalcon52 I'm glad you are walking around and feeling OK. Do you know how and why you fell?

I'd like to encourage you to call or make an appointment with your primary care provider and here is why. Like you, I had a fall onto a hard surface. I fell in the garage on to a cement floor. I hit both knees very hard and one of my hands. I sat for awhile after the fall and then my partner helped me into the house. I iced my knees and my hand. I could barely move my hand. I called my doctor's office the following day and got in to see her that afternoon. She did a clinical exam and said she did not detect anything that needed imaging like an X-ray. I've been examined by her again since then and it seems like I'm OK. It's a miracle that I didn't experience any fractures.

I'm also on Evenity ( 5 months). I had a sacral fracture last year and no idea how it happened. So, I'm taking no chances on the possibility of future fractures.

It's been over a month since I fell. One of my knees is still bruised and my doctor said it is a bone contusion that will take longer to heal.

Again, I'm glad you are OK.

While untangling dog leashes yesterday, I lost my balance and did a sit-down fall. Fortunately, I landed in the grassy strip next to the sidewalk. Still the fall was transmitted up my spine. I substituted a big girl aspirin for my daily baby aspirin last night,

Congratulations to all, for successfully remaining fracture free!
Long may this continue!

Consider getting a watch which will set off an alarm if you fall. If you don't need help you can turn it off. It "talks" to your cell phone. Both Apple and Samsung make them.

Helen,
Yes, I fell because I became tangled up in some vines that I was pruning. I actually feel worse today. Everything hurts. I’m sure dome motrin will take care of it. 🙂

I agree - and one of the main reasons I purchased an Apple Watch. The watch is not only compatible with the iPhone, but it will also auto dial 911 unless the wearer responds that they are okay (it also asks if the wearer fell but is okay). The watch is not cheap, but there are no monthly subscription fees and it’s pretty reliable; it detected a fall when I was chopping ice in the driveway because my arm was making “abrupt” stops.

The Samsung is similar. Mine went off for the first time recently when I was taking an Army Duck tour of the canals at the Gold Coast. I didn't think it was too rough but my watch obviously disagreed!

Those watches are not made with those of us with 5" circumference wrists in mind.

I'm actually glad the jarring motion set it off - better to know they work BEFORE you need them. Glad to see you're having fun!
