After knee replacement surgery
Had left knee replaced 9 days ago. Right knee two years ago. Having a problem with inflammation so hard to bend knee and exercise. Trying to ice and raise knee above heart. Doctor suggested getting compression hose. Anybody have this experience and can offer suggestions. So tired all the time from pain interrupting my sleep and painkillers. My insurance refused to pay for the painkiller recommended by surgeon so have to take one with more opiates. That's frustrating. Two years ago it was covered but now too expensive for me to use. Seems the drug companies, not our doctors are determining what we use.

Do you mind telling me which Dr. at Mayo did you TKR ?
Hi there gailfaith ..... what a wonderful story ..... you've really done extremely well and can feel very good about it and about your general health ..... it speaks well for you. Titanium is usually what the replacement joints are made of. Take care.

Hi there Abby. Ah yes, the "titanium years", I like that also! Did you perchance see the post I sent about the project I have here on the retirement community campus and my walking? Don't know if it still available on Connect? If you are computer literate, and if you can find me on a side bar somewhere, all my posts may still be there. I find I forget more than I would like to forget so even my (not smart) cell phone is getting more difficultfor me to use. I trust I am not wearing out my knees with my "project". Since mid August I have walked 19 miles just doing my project. Gail
Computer literate ..... hmmmmm ..... well, I can open it, start it, do e-mail .....and search for things, but that's about it. Phone wise ... well, that's another issue. About 1-1/2 years ago (just before I moved here) my "flip phone" fell in the cat's water dish. So, I went to get another and what I got was what they said was the next one made after the flip phone. Well, to me it's one of those new fangled things that has so much stuff in it that just looking at it makes me dizzy. I tried for over a month to use it and finally in total frustration gave up, put it back in the box, went on Amazon and got a new "flip phone" and had my son transfer all my info. to it. That's what I use. So, you see ....... a teckie I'm not. I suspect the day may come when I just won't be able to use any of this new stuff, but it is what it is.
Are you doing a lot of walking? That's the best exercise you can do for your entire body ..... good for you. My little street is 2 duplex sets long and goes right out onto a highway, so I'd have to drive somewhere to do any decent walking. I do have a small stepper here which I use, but walking is sure a whole lot more fun! I'm sorry I didn't see your other post about your project, but 19 miles is wonderful! Wow! You must have a pedometer. I had one but it got lost in the shuffle of moving. Probably should get another. There are actual walking trails at the place where I lived in MD, all marked with half mile markers, etc. That was great. I'd take my little dog and she and I went out and trotted right along ....... then came home and collapsed!
Take care,
abby
Hello Gailfaith,
Are you recommending a post that you made previously on Connect to @amberpep? You are able to see earlier posts by yourself or other members by clicking on your own or his or her's photo. If you have an idea of when it was or where it is, we may be able to direct Abby to it. Also, by clicking on another members photo you can then send them a private message by clicking on the envelope symbol. These are all options on how to get Abby the conversation you are referencing.
Abby, I hope I am not repeating myself but I started an memo to you after Moderator Justin so kindly told me how to find my post of Nov 5th to which I was referring. Did you see his post and already see my memo? I hit something and my memo disappeared so here I start again. I don't want to bore others on Connect by repeating myself about my project. (Thanks Justin!) As of today since Aug 13 when I started this project, I now have logged 20 miles. My PT, Brian, loves it and he loves my motivation, but of course he is my motivation. I work hard to see his smile. He owns a practice with 3 sites that are about 10 miles apart. He is only 44 now, married with 3 kids and we have a ball together. Gail
WOW! You go girl! That's fantastic. Gives me a bit more motivation to get up and get going!

@gailfaith For those of you who have had a knee replacement and have any limited flexion, has any one accidentally over flexed their "new" knees which in turn interfered with your balance? Trying to get up from a restaurant booth, my friend, trying to help me get up, pulled me off the seat and I landed on my knees. I immediately knew that my knees were over flexed. Knowing there was no way I could get up and because of the pain, I started to scream. People came to help me up, but I didn't want to try standing until I knew what, if any permanent damage was done, so I went by ambulance to the hospital where they found no major damage. Because I also have myotonic dystrophy my balance is a little bit compromised already, but now much more so. My physical therapist says that I should be OK in 2-4 weeks, but it has already been 1.5 weeks and I see little progress. If this has happened to you, how long did it take you to get your balance back to where it was before you fell?
I DONT KNOW IF I HAVE THE SAME BALANCE PROBLEM BUT THE WAY MY DR.HANDLE IT WAS USING A WALKER ALL THE TIME DOING MY BALANCE EXERCISES. HOPE THIS HELPS . TAKE CARE TAKE IT SLOWLY.
.
My problem was lack of flexibility" worked hard at but swelling never went down and it's been three years. I play golf and that knee hurts, stem cell knee does not. Would like a do over.
