I started Forteo 3 mths ago and have bad side affects

I started Forteo 3 mths ago and am dealing with bad side affects. I already suffer from chronic ISBD but now have severe diarrhea and have lost 14lbs and every day from the time I wake up until about 2:30 in the afternoon I'm running to the bathroom, it's increased my migraines, I have hair loss, i was taking BP meds before due to high blood pressure but had to stop because now my BP is incredibly low heart rate is high and my BP crashes at least every 2 weeks to 57/37. I already have angina but now because my BP is low I can't take nitro when I'm suffering with chest pains. When I give myself shots I have no problems on the left side but my right side bruises and bleeds every time... These are just some of what I have been dealing with since starting Forteo. Has anyone else experienced anything like this with these shots???? I can't imagine living like this for 2 years!!!

Fosamax (alendronate) holds the gains from Forteo. Per my Endo (I recently finished 2 years of Forteo) and was prescribed Fosamax.

yes, I was on Fosamax after but ended up with laryngeal reflux from it, so stopped all drugs for 8 years. Now I am trying Fosamax again since I lost any gains I made in the past, and dont want to do another injection if possible.

Unfortunately no, and it's very aggravating that it's still ongoing. All I can do is wait it out and pray that sooner rather than later they subside and stop all-together. Thank you for checking in. (((((Hugs)))))

I started forteo two months ago. Now I have had problems with severe headaches, flu like symptoms, pain in the neck in the back the arms and the legs. Everybody else sells me. Oh, you have for a couple days. A lot of people say they don’t have any problems. Let me tell you I have problems and then I contacted my Doctor Who just left the practice two days later and her filling doctor. I have kidney issues and I have an autoimmune disorder you’re supposed to be monitored closely with these problems. The one doctor says it was safe to take well she’s wrong so they told me to stop for a week and then go back on it and see if the things change I went off. I had no headaches I had no pain. No problem went back on. I had the same symptoms all over again then two days ago I’ve had burning like in my face head was peeling so bad. I felt so tired, weak pain in my arms and legs where I can hardly walk blue like symptoms again so I think it’s this medication. I don’t think I could take this stuff so I’m just gonna go back to taking calcium K D3 and Boron and do it that way until I see my doctor maybe see what else there is out there I know Prolia is just to maintain bones, but at this point, I don’t know what else to do when you have an auto immune disorder. It seems to counteract everything, and it makes me sick as a dog, but I am not taking something like this one I can’t even function. I can’t even walk right I mean I’m in so much pain

I'm so very very sorry you are going through that! I totally understand! I would sincerely stop taking it! Pay attention to what your body is telling you! No one knows your body like you do! And it frustrates me when Drs don't listen when we tell them what we are going through! It took several months for the side affects I was experiencing from Forteo to stop or lessen! This is so wrong! Because of all the meds they have prescribed now that have caused major side effects, I am now experiencing severe side effects to so many prescriptions that I shouldn't and it is awful. Even antibiotics, I am now allergic to seven different antibiotics now! Please pay attention to what your body is telling you and don't let Drs force you to take meds that make you sick. Praying for you. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

@normahorn just an update for everyone, since my last post I've had two heart surgeries, the last was for svt and also had a heart loop monitor implanted due to uncontrollable high heart rate from AFib to monitor 24/7 .... Still experiencing severe neck pain which they don't know why and have now said I have vagovasgal (not sure spelling is correct) but I pass out if my head/neck is in a certain position. So it's not been a fun year. Just had the heart surgery 3 weeks ago. In full time o/t p/t due to limited mobility. Which I'm very upset about. Used to be able to walk 2 miles and now can't even do 2 blocks 😭

@vmcgrantham
I think it is the medication, too, possibly causing hypercalcemia. Even so the two months on Forteo have probably done some good for your bones. The nice thing about Forteo is that you quit and the symptoms stop. With Prolia you'd be stuck for a long while, if you had side effects. For some the body adjusts. There are some tricks like taking salt and caffeine before the injection, being hydrated for the shot and taking the injection every other day giving your body a chance to adjust. Stopping Forteo suddenly is completely safe.
You might consider Tymlos. It has a similar mechanism of action, but some who can't tolerate Forteo function well on Tymlos. With Tymlos you can start with a lower dose again giving your body time to adjust. These two are my favorite drugs, they build the best bone. But I wouldn't be able to tolerate headaches much less nausea. I hope you can avoid Prolia.
Best wishes.
