Hi gailfaith, niazumbanut, ronnie3716,
Good luck to ronnie3716 on your upcoming knee replacement. Keep us up to date on your progress. Thanks to gailfaith and niazumbanut for your support and good suggestions. I'm now doing home health PT but want to start out patient PT next week. I'm trying to decrease pain meds but sleeping through the night is still challenging. I know I have to give it time. beatricefay

I am now 20 days post TKR on my left knee. Thank you to all of you who offered your knowledge and experience. It all helped me a lot.
I am walking well with a cane. I'm hoping by another week, I'll be walking without assistance.
I did have a bump when a bruise on the back of my TKR leg was thought to be a blood clot. Hot, swollen it matched some of the symptoms. I had an ultrasound and NO clot.
PT 2x a week. Swelling around knee persists.

All in all, not as painful as I thought it would be. The old knee pain is gone!!!
Large wrap around ice gel pack is my biggest help. (Bought from my PT)
Take 1-2 opioid pills a day. Looking forward to being off that.
I believe everyone has their own experience and should react to their own personal recovery. There is no right way to your recovery.

This forum is so outstanding because I learned so much, I was prepared for whatever my recovery entails.

Thanks for the update, Ronnie. So glad to hear you are doing well and that Connect was able to help with your recovery. Keep up the good work and keep us updated!

Hi Ronnie3716,
Great to read you are doing so well. It's now about 5 weeks since my knee replacement and although I'm told I'm doing well, I still have pain which keeps me up at night. Have tried all kinds of combinations of sleep aids and pain meds but still can't get a decent night's sleep. That has been the most difficult part of this process. I'm still using a can for support. The PT is most important in getting back my flexibility. For anyone else planning a knee replacement, know that it takes a lot of patience. The pain can get discouraging but hopefully at one point I'll feel a lot better. Ronnie keep up your good healing. BeatriceFay

Good to hear!

I am happy for you keep the execises and walk.
My LKR has gone so well BUT my right knee- The real one, is so inflamed and hurts so badly when I walk that I find myself doing everything to avoid walking. PT thinks I strained a ligament on my upper leg and it's pulling on the kneecap. The pain is far worse than my left one that had the replacement. I had all kinds of test run on the right knee prior to the operation on my left knee in late June.
Has anyone else experienced pain and swelling in the non-operated on knee? I have appointment with orthopedic surgeon in two weeks.
If yes please tell me what you did about it.
Thank you

Hello Ronnie. I have not experienced that but have a suggestion as to what might have caused it. After surgery we understandedly favor the knee that was replaced. That puts is in an unbalanced posiition when we walk and can cause all sorts of issues. With me, i experienced severe back spasms to the point that I became almost completely immobile. I hope your problem is merely a strain that will work itself out but you are doing the right thing by seeing your orthopedic surgeon. Good luck.

Sending positive energy your way!

Hello @ronnie3726,

Following up with your September post about having your right knee looked at with an orthopedic surgeon, what did you find out? Was there ligament damage to your right knee? Did they find a cause for your pain in your non-replaced knee?

Hi @JustinMcClanahan, thank you for your inquiry.
The NON TKR knee is scheduled to have a TKR on Feb 6th.
The pain I was having turned out to be from bone on bone.
I had a orthoscopic procedure about a year and a half ago. Doc said knee looked good, small adjustments made to miniscus. But what he couldn't see was that the arthritis was working its way underneath.
I tried cortisone shot and synvisc. Both were of no help.
I waited too long for the first TKR, this time I'm getting rid of the pain asap.

I read the posts often on this site.
I am doing PT now, prior to the surgery, to get my muscles as strong as possible.
I believe that having done the same with the first TKR, my recovery was faster and with less pain.
Right now my TKR knee is at 130 and the right side, soon to be replaced is at 135.

Hoping that my "new" knee holds up during surgery recovery for the weaker one.

Question: Does anyone have the problems I do with acid reflux when taking the pain pill? If yes, what do you use to combat it?
I never had this problem pre-surgery and want to avoid it with this surgery.

Thank you to all for being there.
