No Relief Ever and Pain Increasing; How Do You Stand It?

Posted by vickirobinson1952 @vickirobinson1952, Mar 12 7:18pm

My husband has chronic pain, and has had since his teens. (He is 62 now.) About 3 years ago he developed pain in his "sit bone" (ischial tuberosity) that has been steadily getting worse. Drugs don't touch it. Abbott's dorsal pain stimulator had no effect. Cortisone shots do nothing. (The lidocaine or whatever it is that accompanies cortisone shots gave an hour of relief.) He can't sit in a car or a plane for more than an hour without severe pain. He was a kayak racer, and loved it, but that's over. He can't ride his beloved bike anymore. We can walk about a mile or so, no more. They can't do nerve ablation. His pain doctor told him that perhaps a bursectomy might help, which is something we are investigating, but the pain specialist and neurologist have essentially said that they can't do any more for him. And so far, we have been unable to find an orthopedic surgeon who does this procedure.

And the pain just keeps getting worse. He's having problems sitting, so he's spending more time lying down. That's beginning to hurt too much too.

What does he do when it becomes unendurable?

Cold laser treatment to help eliminate the pain and begin healing. I have used it for 7 weeks straight for a knee injury pain. It worked. My chiro did it 25 dollars per session twice a week. I can walk again and my k er is healing still.

He is going to have to find a doctor who will prescribe the correct medications. Lyrica Cymbalta, and an antidepressant like Wellbutrin together with my spinal stimulator work for my sitting pain which was debilitating and kept me in bed as well. Now I’m up and about. None of these things by themselves worked for me but together they do the job. Good luck to you.

My comment was in response to @vickirobinson1952 . The way reply comments on here don’t actually come up as replies to the correct comment makes things confusing.

Do you exercise regularly with your own home exercise program? I have found that using my muscles has provided me increased benefit of decreased pain and decreased episodes of night spasms in my legs and feet.

I’m almost 74 and I still try to get out and walk about 1-2miles - three times a week. But I have stage three of progressive poly neuropathy from a doctor who cut the entire branch of nerves at T9-10. I’ve taken many supplements for nerve growth but nerves grow so slow nothing has improved. In fact more nerves keep dying in my feet causing more balance and pain issues. I’ve consulted a naturalpath and I have a BS in Holistic herbalism and nutrition. We keep seeking ways to also improve digestion from the intestinal and gut neuropathy. While that issue had improved, I continue to lose feeling in my feet, legs, buttocks, and now hands and arms. I am not diabetic and I manage my diet to not become diabetic. I also use test strips to ck for acid versus alkalinity as it’s important to not let the body become too acidic. That causes more disease. I also ck for food items that cause tissue swelling like red meat and dairy as avoiding them helps the neuropathy swelling in my feet , knees and hands. I’m open to try new things. So I keep reading and exploring.

Where do you live? If you are near NJ or NY Hospital for Special Surgery is worth a BIG LOOK!!! I have been there for 2 procedures ( 1 was a total hip replacement) and the doctors are TOP NOTCH!!!! Honestly!! I suffer from a disease called CRPS and they gave me an injection of Ketamine before the procedure to make sure it did not spread and it worked. Bad enough I have had it in my legs for 20 years. Made lots of adjustments to meds over the years but I will Always go there for surgery of any type on me. Gentle hugs

I fell on a ramp in 2015 and hurt my coccyx and sit bones. Nothing helped. Not injections to the facets, nor nerve blocks, or three rounds of pelvic floor therapy, nor chiropractic, nor acupuncture. I sat on a donut for pregnant women at work and at home. Magnetic therapy didn’t work either. Massage helped for a few hours. Reiki helped as well but still the pain was off the chart. It feels like sitting on golf balls with pain radiating down your buttocks into your calf’s. So what worked? Well I did a very unconventional thing : I tried medical marijuana . If you read my story of my spinal cord trauma or on chronic pain I’ve studied so much about the terpenes and cannabinoids in both sativa and indica strains it’s easy to find products for spasms and pain. By now your husband likely has what I have: craps and the spasms just don’t stop. Standing feels the best. Something else I found helpful was getting a large Nikon Magnet about 5x7 and I sit on it. I buy a salve that’s THC with other oils and it immediately numbs the area for a several hours. I remember crying the first time I did a tincture.
I laid in bed because I didn’t know how I’d feel. I am 74 now but I was 69 when I tried medical marijuana. Why did I cry? Because it was the first time since 2015 when I fell on that ramp that I was totally out of pain. If your state has recreational or medical marijuana, I’d make an appointment to see a doctor to get started.

Can you please provide more detail on the medical marijuana that helps you? What form, dose, etc? Also, do you happen to reside in MN? I'm in that states MM program but haven't found anything that helps with pain (from fibromyalgia). thank you

Would you provide more information about the magnet you use. I looked up Nikon magnet, I believe you meant Nikken.
Where do you purchase these? Thanks.

When you say drugs don’t touch it because there are narcotics that will help tremendously, you should find a good pain management doctor and perhaps some good pain relief with opioid medication of which there are several. I speak from experience with severe chronic lbp.
God Bless and Happy Healing 🙏🏻
