Pancreatic Injury from COVID-19
As a fairly new member, this is my 2nd post. The MRI showed a Mass on the head/uncinate process of my pancreas in October. Today, I had my Endoscopic Ultrasound with Biopsy. All my labs have been normal but I've lost 16 unplanned pounds in 2 months and am nauseated with little to no appetite. The physician said my ducts, left top portion of the liver and duodenum were all Normal. But he clearly saw the mass and couldn't tell whether it was cancerous or not and he said he is an expert. So, we wait for the Biopsy results next week. Meanwhile, I realized that I went thru a very bad case of COVID-19 in Dec 2021-Jan 2022 and wondered if there was a connection. See a copy and paste of some of my research below and I would greatly appreciate any information or input on this subject as a possibility for me.

Pancreatic lesions in COVID-19 patients can be caused directly by the cytopathic effects of the viral infection, or indirectly by systemic responses to inflammation or respiratory failure. Several studies have shown that ACE2 is the functional receptor used by SARS-CoV-2 to gain access to target cells and ACE-2 receptors are expressed in significant amounts in the pancreas. In the first case, an incidental finding of a multi-cystic pancreatic mass on admission was reported. There was no pancreatic ductal dilation on the CT scan, which may indicate a direct injury caused by cytopathic effects of the virus rather than inflammation resulting in exocrine secretions forming cysts. In the second case, multiple masses on the pancreas were found after recovering from COVID-19. These lesions could be remnants of a previous pancreatic injury during the acute phase of the infection.

Have you come across any information that the Moderna covid vaccines, booster, or bivalent booster contribute to and causing these significant findings in the pancreas as contracting the covid virus.
I wish the medical community and CDC experts would look into these findings and conduct screenings on patients and elaborate on this to the general public. I have had pancreatitis for the last 5 weeks since being put on Atovastatin and getting the 4th Moderna Bivalent shot.
No longer taking the statin.
Thank you for all the information.
Take care
What enzymes did you purchase. I am on Ceron and feel horrible
I read this exact posting. Also there is information on line about Covid vaccines triggering the ACE cytosines in the pancreas. The CDC is now posting information about deceased Covid patients also suffering pancreatic complications during hospitalizations in addition to lung complications. New information is coming forward in regard to pancreatic and liver injuries after contracting covid and injury after covid bivalent vaccine. Quite disturbing, it has been 6 weeks since getting the 4th Moderna bivalent vaccine, and no longer taking Atorvastin that my pancreatitis is finally subsiding. Going for recheck of my amylase and lipase levels.
Can Mayo Clinic please post their findings in regard to this discussion?
Hi @susanpmadigan, you are right to ask about the origins of the text quoted by @ladyaceintx1 in the original posting. I have added it there.
Here is the case study write up:

For everyone: it is important to note that this paper recounts a suspected correlation describing 2 cases, concluding that "COVID-19 infection may trigger pancreatic injury in some patients."
Case studies help trigger further investigation in clinical studies, but are not conclusive evidence until further study is done.
Susan,
Yes, as answered by Colleen. Because I'm still waiting for my GI to determine if my Chronic Pancreatitis is an autoimmune type, I was doing my own research and found the information relating COVID-19 to Pancreatitis . I had COVID in December of 2021 and am considering it as a possible cause.
I have not heard from anyone regarding Statins and covid bivalent shot causing or aggravating pancreatitis.
Anyone experience these symptoms?
Thank you
Can we start a conversation about statin use and side effects affecting the pancreas, liver and kidneys.
My pancreatitis, flared up after beginning a regimen of Atorvastatin, 20 mg a day. I became so ill. Stopped taking the statin and pancreatitis has subsided. Also developed a kidney problem. I have an appt with a nephrologist in 2 weeks. Not everyoe can take statins. There is now a discussion among the medical commuity that if there is no heart disease, or no heart surgeries (stents, oblation, etc.), maybe change is in order instead of physicians prescribing statins just because of elevation of LDL's. Why can't alternatives be recommended. Dietary changes, weight loss and exercise. I guess a quicker fix and less time spent with patients is the way to go with some physicians.
Look forward to hearing responses.
I’ve been on Creon the past 3 months. I have nausea but I had that before being put on Creon other than that I don’t feel horrible. And I’ve started gaining some weight back.
Maybe your not on the correct dose
I recall when I first started a sample of Creon and it was the highest dose (I believe) and I didn’t feel good Very bloated, but when I started taking the lower dose I felt better.
