I watch him faiirly regularly, and he seems to be very knowledgeable, with a curious and well-trained mind. I appreciate his pyramid approach to osteoporosis, and wellness generally. It's the opposite of what I experienced when I got a "severe osteoporosis" diagnosis a year ago. Went to 3 drs., all of whom insisted that I go on a drug immediately, based solely on DEXA. When I argued that perhaps my DEXA was not accurate--it didn't seem that the place I got it was well-regulated--they said, "Whatever--your scores are way too high, 20x more likely to fracture, etc."
When I found Dr. Lucas (after having started EVenity), my consolation was that I could not have afforded him in the first place. Now I appreciate very much his reasoned, concise, and always informative youtubes. I think he's a credit to his profession.
BTW, I recall Lucas saying that strontium is maybe not a good idea.
right. I actually took algaecal plus without the strontium for a year while I took evenity for the same year. My results were excellent as I posted elsewhere but I had hoped for maybe even a bit better since algaecal seemed to get these incredible results ( but mostly with the strontium). I certainly tolerated the algaecal plus very well. Previously Dr Lucas liked MCHC Formulation. From the video I gathered he was talking about the algae based calcium that includes other minerals. For the time I followed Algaecal on FB, strontium was heavily promoted. I was just surprised to see him partner with them.
hi Kristie. They do. he is just recommending/endorsing the algaecal plus. not the strontium. I took the plus and it was well
tolerated by my GI tract but not so by my wallet so I was looking for other approaches and i came across Doug lucas you tube and found it very interesting

This is a podcast from Dr. William MD. busting the myth about Strontium Citrate. He cites clinical studies and is a proponent of SC as effective in building bone and reducing fracture risk with minimal side effects. Very informative and really helps educate on the benefits of SC. https://goevomed.libsyn.com/contrversies-in-nutrition-nac-strontium-and-fish-oil
BTW. I recall Lucas as being supportive of strontium use for osteoporosis. But whether or not he is, this podcast cleared up misconceptions about its use.
Thanks for sharing the Dr. Doug information. I watched a few of his YouTube videos and he seems solid. I will watch more. That said, after watching his recent video on Calcium and Algaecal, you can tell he is having a really hard time recommending it, in any form. I hate to say he did this due to financial reasons, because he seems really genuine, but I have to believe that he would not have made this video without some sort of financial incentive. My opinion.
A quick note on calcium and calcium absorption from my research. All calcium, regardless of the form, will be broken down into it's ionic or elemental form before being absorbed into the blood stream. Some forms will break down faster and more complete than others, but once broken down, calcium is calcium. Now if you are deficient in a particular vitamin or mineral that is needed for the bone building process, then those minerals can be added to your diet or received from other supplements, it does not have to be taken at the same time as your calcium. That goes for vitamin D as well.
My thoughts on calcium supplementation is take calcium from a well know, very large company that has a lot to lose if they have any contamination or recall. They will ensure top quality. The regulation on supplements is almost nonexistent in the US. I personally take Citracal Petites and sprinkle them in throughout the day with meals as needed based on my diet.
For reference, attached is a draft slide showing the absorption process of calcium from the intestines into the blood stream. Also attached is a draft slide showing a study for the absorption of different types of calcium. The key takeaway from my research is all forms of calcium are pretty much the same as long as you take it with a meal.

Thank you for saying that stomach acid does its job very well.
When a person is selling books on a medical subject. I look to see what peer reviewd articles that person has authored. Is money the only driving force or is information shared anong colleagues?
I saw the video also, not sure what to make of it yet. Way too many unanswered questions for me. He did say he would follow up with another on strontium.
Has anyone checked into Dr Doug Lucas on Utube. He deals with osteoporosis but rarely uses drugs. He has written a book The Osteoporosis Breakthrough. Very short but interesting.
Hi, I saw that also it looks like they sell the strontium separately.
