Hot Flashes and Symptoms
This question is just because of my curiosity. I have been on Testosterone blockers (Orgovyx) for 17 months and I get hot flashes somewhat frequently. During the day, there is no warning--I just start getting hot for a couple minutes. During the night when sleeping, it is different. My legs and feet start hurting which wakes me up. Then, a minute or two later, I get the hot flash.
So, I am asking if anyone else has similar symptoms? During the day, it is no big deal. At night, it wakes me up and takes me awhile to get back to sleep.
Just Curious.

I have "only" been on Orgovyx for 4 months (2 more to go). I have rare hot flashes during the game, but typically have a couple moderate hot flashes each night. Fortunately I generally get back to sleep ____fairly____ quickly. I have noticed that any evening intake of alcohol worsens the hot flashes.
Stay Strong Brother.
I've been on it for 22 mos. I take it in the morning. I have EXACTLY the symptoms that you have. It's rare to get the hot flash during the day for me and when I get them, it's usually at the gym so it just looks like I'm working harder than I am 🙂
At night I can almost set a watch by it now. 2 am and 4 am. I wake up and wonder "what woke me up?" then a little restless leg and a hot flash, or power surge as my wife likes to call it...and back to sleep.
They can last up to about 5 minutes. From other reading and my experience, I think you are getting the normal reaction. My RO offered a medication to help with just the restless legs but I felt that I didn't want to "swallow the spider to catch the fly" if you remember that story.
I was on orgovyx for one year and had only occasional hot flashes that were moderate at worst. I have now been off it for about 2 months. This is now a VERY different story. I have been getting intense hot flashes anytime of the day, but particularly in the evening after dinner. They are so intense that I feel like passing out and I get drenched with sweat. My oncologist said these can last 3-4 months or even up to 6 mos. My libido shows no signs of coming back. I am 74 yo and I did not expect to improve overnight. I had 28 rounds of IMRT which I chose because it was supposed to have fewer side effects like ED and incontinence than surgery. I have no incontinence but I have had no sign of an erection in well over a year. My PSA is currently undetectable. I asked my oncologist about testosterone supplements and he was adamant about the potential of a possible recurrence of the cancer because the T could stimulate any residual cancer cells.
I would suggest getting a perscription from your doc for gabapentin (300 mg). It almost completely stopped my restless legs and arms with no side effects so I was able to sleep.
Thank you. I only have 10 more days of Orgovyx so hopefully life, sleep and “other things” will get better soon!
10 days!!! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have four days left on my 12 months of Orgovyx
I didn't get the restless legs at night, but...
If you think of the Bell Curve in statistics, 5 hot flashes was my normal, 6-7 was one or two standard deviations to the right, 3-4 was the two standard deviations to the left.
I kept a thermos of cold ice water by my bed, would throw off the covers, drink some ice water, then wait for the hot flash to subside. Most times I was back asleep in five minutes or so. There were some that took me 15-20 minutes...!
During the day hot flashes were spread out, some intense, others "mild."
I did not take any medications for them, not wanting to add yet more SEs. I dressed appropriately, layered so I could shed clothing, never used the heater in my car, sawm in the unheated lap pool, would go out on the back deck in Spring, Fall and Winter to cool off.
We'll see what happens when I come off treatment his time.
I did have mild fatigue, muscle and joint stiffness, genitalia shrinkage, though throughout my ten years, with the help of daily Cialis I have been able to achieve erections, never lost my libido, much to my wife's dismay...never had an issue with incontinence, dry the day the nurse pulled the catheter out after my surgery in 2014.
Two comments: drinking hot tea helps cause my hot flashes. Sleeping at night with wool socks on- keeps my feet/ toes warm and cozy and at peace… lol.
There is an anto-depression medication called Venlafaxine. I read about how it helped a man my age get rid of the hot flashes. A twice daily dosage of 37.5 was recommended and did the trick for me.
Yes. I wake up to terrible hot flashes. I had a couple last night. For me, I feel like I lose my breath a little and then I just feel something in my gut and it starts moving up my body tp my head. By the time it gets to my head, my face is red, I feel burning tingles and I am sweating terribly. It then triggers my body to need to pee immediately. At night, I wake up to a pool of sweat and I throw off the covers, go to the bathroom, drink water, go back to bed. Some hot flashes are worse than others too. Some make me feel very weak and I have to lay down. Other just happen and I keep moving on. I just keep calm and carry on.
