Lantus SoloStar Pens Out-of-Stock!

I wonder if it’s related to the Levemir issue. I use Levemir as a backup long acting, in case my pump fails. I received a message that it had been discontinued.

Yikes! Check with your provider to see what they recommend you do. They may have a supply they can give you to hold you until the shortage is resolved at your pharmacy. Your provider may also be able to recommend an alternate med. A third option is to ask the pharmacy to contact other pharmacies in an effort to find a supply of the Lantus SoloStar pens. I used to use Lantus and I recall using something called Basaglar as an alternative. I now have an insulin pump (as @celia16 mentioned above). The backup plan for that is a Tresiba pen for long acting basal and a Humalog pen for quick acting bolus and correction. Today is Friday. Can you access your provider to get this resolved before the weekend?

Thanks, Cheryl. Pharmacist said they have Basaglar pens. I like my Lantus pen, so I'm currently researching the Lantus Biosimilars -- Semglee and Resvoglar. He said they can get the Semglee pens. I will also ask about Resvoglar pens, and see if I can find some comparisons. These biosimilars from Lilly seem to be popping up pretty fast. Wonder if that's why this competition is causing Sanofi to be having Lantus Solostar pen shortages.

Whenever government establishes price controls ($35 insulin). Two things happen:
1) Shortages develop,
2) Black market develops.

More help from government is needed, right?

After calling around to a couple of different Walgreens on Easter Sunday, I managed to find a box of the Lantus Solostar pens in a nearby location not too far away, and I'll pick it up tomorrow. Happy about that. But I'm a tad ticked at my neighborhood Walgreens for not checking or suggesting that I call other Walgreens. They have easy access to which other Walgreens have what in stock -- and then they could have either gotten it in, or I could've gone to pick it up earlier. At least, I've learned a bit about the new biosimilar and interchangeable insulins, so I'll be better prepared next time something like this comes up. Thanks so much, everyone, for your help!

I have been on Levemir for many years from the V A.
A couple months ago they called and said I would be on another kind
( Insulin Glargine ) because the Levemir was not making enough money.
Also this new stuff is not as good as Levemir long lasting. I have to take
more of the glargine and it still comes short of Levemir.
Seems to me like an old story I heard which said: MONEY TALKS, ,
BULL STUFF WALKS. Ladies please do not read that line.
