Can you take Forteo again after 5 years of being on no drugs?

I took Forteo for 2 years 5 years ago with some improvement but didn't take any drug afterwards. My dexa results went back to square one.

The time limit on Forteo has been lifted. I believe you can take it for 4 years total but check with your doctor. So you could do another two years and it should be effective. Then follow up with Reclast or Fosamax this time!!!! Sorry noone prescribed that for you in the past. Maybe there is more knowledge now?

I had taken Fosamax and Actenol previously but developed Barrets Esophagus afterwards. Thank you so much for this! I appreciate it!

jbfm, Yes! And the second round is said to be as robust as the first.

Wow - good to know. My endocrinologist had told me I could never take it again. But with the black box warning removed, I'd thought differently. Thank you.

@jbfm- Because Reclast bypasses the Gastro issue , that would be the preferred follow up for you if you were to do Forteo again- according to my understanding!! Good luck!!

I wonder if they will do the same with tylmos? It would be great if evenity too. I was on evenity and no side effects.

@cat714 I read a speculative article on future use of Evenity in short bursts between other meds. The idea was that the first few months are strongly bone-boosting, and then the gains could be maintained with other meds. I think the use of Evenity is going to evolve over time. But right now it is very new on the market. I do think the time limit on Tymlos will be lifted soon, as it was on Forteo.

If you have it, or can find it, I'd love to read the article you read. Is it online? If so, do you have the link?
