Hip replacements for fractured hip due to osteoporosis

This might be an outlandish question, but if, God forbid, someone did have a fracture due to osteoporosis, would you be able to get a hip replacement?

Certainly. My mother and aunt both suffered spontaneous broken hips due to osteoporosis and both received a replacement hip. Both made a good recovery and resumed their lives. I know several other elderly women who had similar experiences.

@scpartain So good to know this. Thank you for your response. My doctors told me I would be dead and buried if I broke a hip.

Yes, I’m sure it may not always work, but nice to reduce one fear a little!!!

I remember a time when this was true - a broken hip was the equivalent of a death sentence much like pneumonia, but those days are gone. I'd be more afraid of not being able to regain my former quality of life but many people do just great! An orthopedist will most likely tell you that you need surgery and could insert that fear factor since it's their bread and butter. Can you tell I'm getting cynical about "healthcare?"

@babs10 We can help to become cynical at this point. I'm having my dexa's from the last 3 years reviewed by an outside party (functional doctor). We'll see what he has to say. My appt. is not until May 15. I can't wait.
