Is it erectile dysfunction (ED)?

I recently went to a highly qualified urologist, and he was equally unhelpful. He immediately went to the only options for me were 1.) Injections (probably Trimix), and 2.) Penile implant.
nothing else. Then he rushed out of the room and that was it for my appt. He dismissed my claim that free testosterone should be looked at. I do take losartan 50 mg and 200 mg of gabapentin, and I showed him my meds list and he barely glanced at the list, saying none of those are responsible. I'm trying another urologist soon as well as a surgeon who specializes in the penile implants. Still gotta press on with the doctors. Most act like they could care less. Read the blogs on this Mayo Clinic website, you must be ab advocate for yourself. Read up. If you go online, look at anecdotal videos of men of all ages and what they went thru before getting to get a penile implant.

@laughlin1947 - The ED diagnosis and treatment is a very frustrating issue! I encountered three basic doctor attitudes: (1) My PCP was at sea with ED. Pills were the only answer...(2) Urologists that stated ED was part of their practice - only to discover the ED part of their practice is a side light and they had little more to offer than my PCP. (3) A true urologist/ED specialist. That diagnostic process was entirely different leading to a solution that's happily been successful for nine years.

Ask around. Research urologists with a true ED specialty. )I'm not sure what to think of the specialty ED clinics that have popped up.)

In the screening process - I might think through questions relating to how the doctor goes about the diagnosis, testing, etc. The diagnosis can be tricky as often there are other conditions present, Rx drugs, Lifestyle concerns, and even psychological issues...

I had a similar experience with my PCP and urologist. My PCP honestly was not educated in ED stuff. Most PCPs are not. I got a new urologist and he is much better. I find we (us patients) need to educate ourselves and help the urologists come to medical conclusions. All I can advise is never quit trying to live your best life. My hormones got screwed up by an HRT program. My testosterone was way too high which raised my estradiol. This caused ED where even ED oral meds did not work. My hormones after 2 months are back to normal after I adjusted my testosterone injections. At least now when I take oral ED medication it works.
