Spacer replacement 4 years after TKR

I was a 6 years out of a tkr and my knee was becoming loose feeling like it was going to give out. The surgeon suggested a larger spacer since the implant still looked good. The surgery was successful and my knee feels nice and tight. It’s been 6 years and all’s well. So glad it was done.

So glad you replied. I am only one yr but the dr said I stretches the muscles too much.. not sure if that was the real answer or if he didn’t put in the right size of plastic spacer..
how was your re overt? I am worried to go back into same decision and infection

I too was told spacer is too thin and I have clunking feeling when I move… it’s very distracting and I am worried about stability. Dr told me they call it a revision surgery. I had a hard time with original TKR surgery and to be not totally good is not the outcome I was hoping for. I worry about infection , worst ROM after revision .. not sure what to do. Would like to hear from others too

The revision with just the spacer inserted was somewhat painful but motion came back pretty quick. Surgery is quick since just replacing the spacer. I haven’t had any trouble at all.

I am scheduled to have thicker spacer replacement in April. I had total knee replacement revision about 2 1/2 years ago. My knee will all of the sudden swell, severe pain and I am unable to put weight on it for a few days. I can’t lift my leg when this happens. I am in some pain everyday, some days worse than others. I am tired and not in good health. I am praying this will really help.

Good luck on your surgery. The good thing is the surgeon will be able to also get a look at your knee while she/he is fixing the spacer.

I have had the knee aspirated and instead of fluid it was thick blood.

I am now pushing 20 weeks and I can report that this procedure is working. Much of the pain and swelling is gone. My recovery has been longer than I thought though. I feel another 4 weeks will see further improvement.
As I was recovering from the original TKR, I felt I was behind. I had daily swelling and pain. As time went by, I saw some improvement but never fully recovered. I did feel instability and had to work hard to keep up with others when walking. I also had a clunking feeling and the knee would sort of lock at times. The main difference, though, between now and then was the pain and swelling. Because that is less, I can walk much better now. I may have been lucky on getting second opinion - doctors do shy away from these cases. I will check back in later and update if anyone is still interested.

What did they say that meant?

Just confused. The last two times it was thick blood. Hopefully he can get in there clean everything up and put the new spacers in.
