You have to know that the Freestyle Libre (and all other meters) are about 15-20 minutes behind what a finger stab will tell you. Helps to know this.

I just want to reiterate that the Freestyle Libre isn’t really a meter at all. There basically are two types of devices to use at home. Glucometers are meters that test the blood sugar with a finger prick. Continual Glucose Monitors (CGM) are devices that are inserted into the interstitial fluid to monitor glucose there and are worn continuously. The two readings should be comparable but there can be a lag between the two numbers (like what @ksdm described). I was told to think of it like a rollercoaster. There is a difference between the head and the tail at any given time but eventually the ride ends up in the same place. I personally use a Dexcom G6 CGM. If I have any concern about high or low values I verify what my condition is by doing a finger stick with a glucometer. The glucometer is accurate for that point in time. The CGM can help to identify trends and patterns over time.

I was getting it at a local pharmacy. Unfortunately they made a mistake for 5 months thinking I had insurance to help cover the costs at 38 dollars. Suddenly they wanted me to get a reauthorization from my doctor to the insurance company. They otherwise would charge me $93 dollars. I could get a discount on it from Abbot, but it would still cost me over $75 dollars. I can’t afford it at that price. So I guess I was lucky enough to get it for less for 5 months and will use the knowledge to get a decent A1C . I can’t use insurance because I don’t use insulin. They don’t want to help with healthy people stay healthy… A bigger problem than I can solve….so back to finger sticks
