How safe is a reclast infusion?

@sarsapkin

I have done the Reclast annual IV infusion once at the 'regular" dose. I took Tylenal pre infusion, lots of water and slow infusion(about 40 min). Now 3 months out I still have bone groin pain both sides that I never had before. The doctor thought it would go away after a month post infusion, it has not gone away. I take 2,000 to 3,000 mg of tylenal a day now in order to manage this. I have not ruled out joint arthrititis but this pain feels different then that to me.
Is this pain from Reclast helping me or not? I don't know .
I have 2 friends that take Reclast annual infusions without any problem.
Fosamax gave me esophageal issues.
So maybe I am one of those folks that have issues with meds.
Good Luck

@susanfalcon52 there are only two options as far as I know: a bisphosphonate or Prolia. My docs prefer a bisphosphonate and try to avoid Prolia. They tell me Reclast is more potent for locking in gains and I have GERD so oral bisphosphonates are not a good option. I am sensitive to meds and have a lot of health issues so we will try a test dose of Reclast first. I wish there were more options! (I have been wondering why the later months of Evenity, which are more anti-resorptive, don't lock in gains, but perhaps studies haven't been done. I am going to ask my doc.)

Also, both my endocrinologist and my rheumatologist said “Fosamax”, so I am the one who will say “Reclast please” when I see the endocrinologist this week.
I already have GERD, so I am positive that I cannot take Fosamax.
Five more months on Evenity.

I too have GERD and an old ulcer, Dr said oral meds would be the worst thing. Good physical shape so she thinks reclast will be the best

Sharing my experience in case it's helpful:Had first Reclast infusion on Monday following a year of Evenity and no prior OP drugs. (Can't do the oral bisphosphonates because of GERD). Six days after the infusion, I'm happy to report that side effects have been minimal, if any. I hydrated as recommended and took Tylenol and Claritin for first 3 days. I was very tired on the second day, maybe slightly feverish, but nothing I would have noticed if I wasn't looking for symptoms. The one thing a bit out of the ordinary was waking up drenched in sweat for the last three days. I'm in mid-70's, in good health, no previous fractures, or auto-immune issues. So far, so good!

@riddick thank you so much for taking the time to give a positive report. It helps the rest of us!

I also wonder why Evenity does not lock in gain if it goes into anti-resorptive mode. $$$$?
