That’s a really good question! I personally do not know anyone or have read any research on the percentage of people who DID NOT not get osteoporosis after 5 years of AI treatment. Especially for post menopausal women. I have a friend in her forties who who got Osteoporosis after 5 years on Tamoxifen. Asking Mayo Clinic, do you have any research or statistics? Thank you.
I wish! One year into Letrozole and into osteoporosis - started Fosamax and I was so hesitant but endocrinologist say way too high spinal fractures!
Hi @beachbabe - Just wondering if you ever started Zometa? After 20 months on Letrozole my DEXA showed -2.7 - so osteoporosis but not tooo bad. I'm 59 yrs old now (57Yrs diagnosed with ILC, lumpectomy and radiation) and had tough time with GI issues after 8 months of Fosamax weekly pill. I am scheduled for first Zometa infusion on 10/28 and starting to think maybe I just punt as side effects so tough but I believe the thinking is our osteoporosis will get worse with 3-5 for more years on Letrozole? Thoughts? xoxoxo
It depends on your bone strength to begin with. I did lots of exercise for bone health, ate a calcium rich diet plus vitamin d. After 5 years on anastrozole I do have osteoporosis. Get your bones tested and talk to your doctor about a plan to move forward!
