Trying to choose supplements carefully
I’m still working on getting a supplement regime going that makes sense. I’m wondering about algaecal - their website makes some pretty big claims. Anybody have verifiable results on algaecal?
Would anyone like to share what all you're taking, for what reason and did you see actual results?

What is a good calcium supplement?
I’ve been taking a calcium supplement made by Thorne. Supposed to be more absorbable and each capsule is 250 mg, making it easy to adjust the dosage based on how much dietary calcium I get in a given day.
Google about vitamin D and osteoporosis. Too much can weaken bones. Everything in balance. My doctor cut mine back to 2000iu even though I was only at 46.
I’ve been taking Algaecal along with Ultra k2, Grassfed Bone and Marrow and Grassfed Living Bone - both from Ancestral Supplements - and Boron. My last dexascan results showed no significant changes - meaning I didn’t get worse - which I considered a win.
It’s important it’s not just one thing that will improve osteoporosis or osteopenia. It’s a combination because bone building is complex. Specific weight bearing exercises are also critical to incorporate.
And everyone’s body is different- you have to be willing to try and be consistent to see if you get results.
I like Margaret Martin for her recommendations based on where you are starting in terms of exercise- new to it, occasional exerciser to an athlete. Her book is “Exercise for Better Bones” - safe and effective exercises for osteoporosis.
Windyshores - what magnesium do you take?
Just had an appt last week with my local doctor & I have lost WAY TOO MUCH weight! I know I am a picky eater but this is really bad!!
Have given Dr McC's list of initial last tests to my doctor. If he agrees to order them & my insureance covers them, I hope to get Dr McM's read on them & how to proceed.
@guinivere I take a mixture of magnesium made by Country Life. I take it at night two hours away from any calcium. It is mainly for my heart but helps with inflammation apparently.
McCormick will talk to you even if you don't get all those labs done and records sent! He doesn't always have answers either but is very knowledgeable as you know. He has never suggested supplements for me- meds yes- which I guess means I am a bad case!
Wondering if anyone has taken or is taking Dr McCormick's Osteo Stim supplement. I'd like to try the Sustain but it's tablets & I can't do those unless they are small & I doubt these are small.
Am "consulting" tomorrow with a UW endocrinologst tomorrow. Hope it goes well.
I take the osteo stim as well as the collagen peptides. I just ordered the sustain, so I don’t know the size of the tablets.
Good luck on your consult.😊
they are about the same size
Ann Kearns, who has been mentioned somewhere here, has written a really good book titled "Mayo Clinic on Osteoporosis." Publuished in 2021.
