PN with lymph fluid leaking in both legs below the knee with severe pa

Posted by musicman @musicman, Mar 9 3:11pm

My husband has been to 3 local wound clinics, had been on different kinds of antibiotics, but none right now. He fell 2 stories on his right shoulder 30+ years ago causing a broken shoulder and damage to his spine, L4 L5 area. Had failed back surgery 7 years ago. They could not repair the pinched nerve. Slowly the feeling in his feet and legs have diminished but the pain is excruciating. Now, due to lack of movement he has developed lymphodema. The fluid coming out is non stop and I change the bandages everyday. The wound care doctor doesn't understand why he's in so much pain. He's been on oxycodone for the back pain for many years and recently have added Lyrica, which has helped. Lately, however, his pain is of the charts. I can't stand to see him cry day after day. There has to be something to lessen the pain. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello @musicman, Welcome to Connect. I know it has to be difficult for you watching your husband in pain and not being able to help lessen his pain. I have lymphedema and have to wear knee high compression socks but I don't have any open wounds or pain with my legs. Since you mentioned wounds and leaking fluid I thought this reference may offer some suggestions:
--- What are the treatment options for chronic wounds?: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK326436/

Are there open wounds on your husbands feet or legs that are leaking lymphatic fluid? Are you able to seek help or a second opinion at a teaching hospital or major health facility like Mayo Clinic?

Thank you! We need to get to a second opinion. We live in a rural area of Ohio with not many options for thus kind of care. The wound clinic in Fort Wayne wouldn't even see him. Yes there are many open wounds on both legs.

I am wondering if your husband has Adhesive Arachnoiditis. This is a very painful disease. I have this condition from having a spinal fluid leak. It can be caused by many different treatments.
