Understand how you could be anxious about what you were told and read about TRUS biopsy.
The reason I posted the results of this February 2024 randomized clinical trial is to help alleviate that anxiety.
In fact, the study found that infectious complications with TRUS were 2.6%, while the infectious complications of a transperineal biopsy were 2.7%. Neither procedure led to any of the 700+ participants experiencing sepsis and no participant required follow up hospitalization for their “infectious event”.
I’ve been told that the transperineal biopsy is more painful than the TRUS biopsy; based on someone who underwent both types. Therefore, full anesthesia for the transperineal biopsy may be a good idea for some.
IMO the takeaway is that both procedures have the exact same level of a risk of a minor level of infection (about 2.6% for both).
