@handera

The very latest (February 1, 2024) ProBE-PC randomized clinical trial results comparing infectious complications of Transrectal prostate biopsy versus transperineal prostate biopsy produced very interesting results.

Conclusion from the report:

“Among men undergoing transperineal or transrectal prostate biopsy, we could not demonstrate any difference in the infectious or noninfectious complications. Both biopsy approaches remain clinically viable and safe.”

I had a transrectal prostate biopsy under full anesthesia and will do the same if/when I must get another biopsy.

@handera My information came from Urologist at Mayo Clinic. I did research myself and same information was found on web sites from major medical providers.

The information given to me was an increase in 2% greater risk of infection and I can see why. I think the new pre-antibiotics attuned to specific type of infection causes has helped keep this low. .

A bigger benefit is the removal of anxiety and worry for many many of us which does not help dealing with a cancer testing. Everyone is different and everyone should decide what is best for them and their anxiety and worry level is.

I have heard several people on MCC really having anxiety over the transrectal procedure and what it entails. The ongoing research and medical reporst do show that there is a 2% increase in infection rates with transrectal but for me the biggest benefit is reducing anxiety, discomfort, and worry before procedure and during procedure.
