I'm sorry that your experience in spine care didn't lend positive results, but hearing your story is valuable to others who are considering similar treatment. I have had one spinal injection that caused a bad reaction and I think I was allergic to a component in the injection such as polyethylene glycol or PEG, and that probably caused some inflammation. I only figured that out after a Covid Vaccination containing PEG caused an allergic type reaction.
As patients we do have to advocate for ourselves and question the risks when we consent to medical procedures. I will not have more spine injections. I am a cervical spine surgery patient. Thank you for joining the conversation.
Lumbar Medial Branch Block and a Lumbar Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), any information , comments or opinions? He has had PT in the past along with a couple different injections one targeting his spinal stenosis and medication for pain.
I believe that each patient has his or her own anatomy and injections aren’t a guaranteed“fix”. If you have faith in your doc’s judgment that’s a good start.
I have had neck pain that was diagnosed by a major medical center physiatrist to be cervical spine caused, but it was not relieved by medial branch and facet joint injections at every level - even C 1-2 done by a different doc. Many docs won’t get close to C1.
I have since acquired lumbar pain and recently received an epidural steroid injection (ESI) at L5-S1 and oddly enough it has had some effect on the neck pain as well as the lumbar pain.
So, should I have maybe received cervical ESI injections instead of facet joint and medial branch injections? Who knows?
My point is that there are different types of steroid injections and the effectiveness may depend on each patient’s individual need and how your body may respond. We’re not medical professionals. I’m an educator. We take our doc’s advice but there are no guarantees.

I just had a consultation with an Ortho surgeon. We went over the MRI and I saw the problem very clearly. He did not suggest surgery at this time but stated injection would be a good start. Although from CT and agree with empresskristine wholeheartedly, I am going to go ahead with the injection.(s) It was also stated that a first injection might not 'do the trick', a second one often does. I am at the end of my quest to remedy my lumbar stenosis and will try almost anything. I am also going to go to a chiropractor although the surgeon said that there is nothing a chiropractor can do for my condition. He also said it wouldn't hurt either.

They’re off label use in discs according to FDA, and they no longer condone ESI in discs because of the chances of worse issues, like adhesive arachnoiditis,
Go for it if it works for you. My experience was my experience. I never said nobody should get them.

Well, to start I’m going to have an epidural first week in march. Long story. Jury out until I see what epidural does and for how long.
I had shots in the back “block” and they helped the pains. She will work on giving me them after as well as the neck.
