My constipation hit suddenly, too, and I've been so puzzled about it and yeah, definitely feeling like I'm going to have to find my own answers, too. I used to function just fine, and without meds of any kind, and then boom, all of a sudden I was having a problem, although it got worse over time. It was the flukiest thing ever and that's why I feel like there's got to be some solution. A few years ago I added bananas into my diet after not having eaten them for a while and I started having a BM the next morning every time I ate a banana - but that only worked for a month and then the effect stopped. And then a couple years later, for several months magnesium citrate was my silver bullet. Now that doesn't work anymore. From time to time there are just signs like that where I can see that my body knows how to function but chemically something is off.
Wishing you luck. Unfortunately, with a lot of these chronic conditions, I think you’re right and it comes down to us to sort things out, or at least to keep pressing for answers.
One other thing that has consistently worked for me are magnesium citrate supplements. I started with 150 mg before bed, but it didn’t seem as effective so I added another capsule for 300 mg, and that usually helps.
