I'm going to post this is a couple of places since I don't know which will be the most help. I was diagnosed with idiopathic PN a couple of weeks ago. The neurologist at may request said that alpha lipoic acid can help some people. So I gave it a try. Still early days and I'm trying half the dose he suggested to see how I adjust to it. The really strange thing I have found is my urine has a sweet smell. I stopped the lipoic acid and it went away. Started the lipoic acid it came back. Anyone have any idea what that is all about. Have any of you experienced the same thing?
Any input would be appreciated.

Here's some possibilities on the topic of urine with a sweet smell.

"Sweet-smelling urine can be a sign of an underlying medical condition or infection. Diabetes, urinary tract infections (UTIs), liver disease, and metabolic disorders can make urine smell sweet. Dehydration, very low-carb diets, vitamin supplements, and some medications can also give urine a sweet scent."

Have you discussed the symptoms of the smell with your doctor?

I have an unusual diagnosed cause .. a foot operation which activated my high immune system and I am … hopefully recovering slowly. My immune system went in to protect my feet but instead starting killing the nerves in my feet. So possibly the trauma of your foot damage caused the same issue as me as trauma of an op can do this. Just a thought worth investigating. Thinking of you. Xxx
