Hi,
I have multiple health issues as well and I’m 62. Right now I’m suffering with Gerd and burning mouth that was caused by either anxiety and depression or the medication prescribed for that or both. I’ve had no life whatsoever being in constant pain with no relief so far from any of the meds my doctor has given for this condition. My husband is very supportive but I feel awful for him that I’ve become this old invalid, and he just retired and is ready to enjoy going out. I feel so helpless even with therapy and journaling because I don’t see an end to this pain. Has anyone ever dealt with this before?

@cdesharn I understand GERD.
Over the last year, I thought I had bronchitis because I was coughing all night, and bring up thick mucus.
My doctor told me that my lungs were clear and he didn’t know why I had the cough.
I decided to go to my Ear Nose, and Throat doctor. He looked up my nose and down my esophagus.
The problem was stomach acid. The acid was coming up and burning my throat and vocal cords. The thick mucus was my body’s way of protecting itself. Unfortunately, it made me cough up all night.
The ENT told me to take liquid Mylanta just before bed, and raise up my head with a 10” wedge pillow.

I am doing better now.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
I too have GERD along with many other medical problems. I've had GERD for the past 25 years. After taking multiple medications with no relief, my PCP sent me to a general surgeon for a fundoplication surgery. I've had over 12 surgeries in my life and this one was the worst. It's a surgery for GERD involving the esophagus, hiatal hernia and diaphragm. I was in the hospital for 12 days and thought I was going to die. The post-surgery period was awful. Only liquids for 4 weeks and then soft food for another 4 weeks. No more soda unless it was flat, etc. I have had to keep on the diet ever since the surgery. Exactly one year after the first surgery, I had to have another because the first one failed. Another 3 months in hell and that one failed after 8 months. I'm now on the highest dosage of Protonix and have Barrett's esophagus. I have an endoscopy every 2 years. I drink flat decaffeinated Pepsi about once a week without side effects.
If you haven't been on Protonix, please talk to your dr about it. I will be praying for you. By the way, your burning mouth may be from the acids coming up during the night. I no longer have that. I still have GERD, but only about 1/4 of the time.
