Hello @gba, I moved your message to the "Thigh weakness/foot drop after spine surgery" discussion, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/thigh-weaknessfoot-drop-after-spine-surgery/.
@donnadrury shared her experience with you. I'd also like you to meet @dadcue and @luamiller who have also shared their foot drop experience in this discussion.
@gba, could you share a bit more about your foot drop? If you are comfortable, what brought on your foot drop and how are you currently coping?
I had back surgery in March of 2024 I woke up the doctor said I had a stroke on my left side then he said that I have drop foot but they put not one single piece of material in my back it was to do with my sciatica nerve but also beside my drop foot I might left arm I can't raise it all the way and I drop things when I hold it so I don't know if this is normal but it's about a year and I wear a brace can't even stand to balance myself at all and I use a scooter I have a very hard time walking with a walker because I don't have no balance I should have never got the surgery I don't know if it's normal for this but it's somebody could answer a question I'd really appreciate it cuz it's been a year I had physical therapy and nothing seems to help
A lot of people with spinal cord injury/myelopathy have foot drop. Mine is fairly minor so I do not wear a brace. There are good hinged braces available for people with foot drop — occupational or physical therapists could help you with this.
