Bone on bone thumbs

Lioness! We are having a surge in COVID 19 cases in Oakland. My infectious disease doctor called me and told me to stay home - she said I can get a DEXA scan when things quiet down. I'm chomping at the bit to find out if I've made progress - but I take comfort in the fact that I've stopped fracturing. Chester and I are getting along. He's been a little bit down the past three days. I think it is hard for him to realize The Baby isn't coming home. Also, he has very bad arthritis in his feet. Regarding boron, I find I do better with four capsules daily. My knees were still bothering me a bit - my poor body is full of arthritis. So I increased to four 3 mg capsules of boron per day. That dose is my sweet spot - I have no arthritis pain if I stay at that dose. It is such a wonderful thing to be relieved of the arthritis pain! It was so bad, sometimes I would cry at night. My poor mother and her sister had it so bad - their hands were so swollen and misshapen. I am very grateful for boron.

@stoney thank you for your reply I think I will stay with injections if I can find a Dr that will do them Im not in favor of surgery if I can avoid it I will Dr gave me Lidocane gel for thumbs for time being but waiting to hear from orthopedic dr.

I have osteoarthitis in both my thumbs, the right on being advanced. Three right thumb injections in 18 months did not provide relief.

CMC -- carpometacarpal surgery is planned for my right wrist soon.

Do you know which type of CMC surgery you will be having? There are several choices including the traditional - using tendon tissue, and suspension, or "tightrope" surgery, and few other less common ones. I have had the "tightrope" surgery on both thumbs, the first one more than 10 years ago, and I highly recommend it for healing time, flexibility and grip strength. I am able to do so much without pain now - sew, quilt, garden, paint (both walls and watercolor), use hand tools, and I seldom drop things now.
Do you have arthritis in other joints as well?

I had this and had both thumbs fused. They are fused at the joint. I have never missed the joint really….it was a great decision as I have no more pain. I later had to have a pin put in the base of both to hold it securely in the joint due to Ehlers Danlos hypermobility. That has also been super successful. Good to have your thumbs…..super impt!!!

How soon after your first thumb surgery did you have the second? My left thumb/CMC has advanced. I’m hoping that keeping it braced will help me as the right one heals.

Keeping it braced is what I did. The interval was about 6 mo. ‘Baby it ‘. because the over compensation never turns out well!! I use the small Salon Pas finger pain patches to draw fluid out!
