I did try seeing a psychiatrist and they only prescription she gave me was "join a church." Seriously. And when I told her I'm an atheist, she frowned and took a step back from me. Again, seriously. Unfortunately, I live in an area which is much like living in the 19th century.

Find a new psychiatrist!

Pretty amazing.

I'm a retired minister, so I would see "find a church" as a possible suggestion, as statistics show, depending on who gathered the statistics, that people who attend a church regularly are happier. That said, statistics are far from 100% positive.

Mental health challenges don't discriminate, though. Depression and anxiety and stress, etc., affect us, regardless our religious beliefs. The brain doesn't seem to make distinctions. Proper medication/therapy can be life saving. In my case, quite literally.

Good that you can smile after your experience.
