I used Widex hearing aids until I got a Cochlear Implant. I had no trouble with hypercausis, except in certain circumstances and I suspect many deaf people have sounds that are normal to others and too loud to them. I also wonder whether it was the make of hearing aid or just the fact that you were using hearing aids. HAs come with many different dome shapes. Did you try different domes to see if they made any difference? I tried different ones at the beginning to find the ones that I thought were best for me. It's an expensive investment not to try to do everything you can to improve the situation. Good luck.
