Widex makes high quality hearing aids. To be helpful, though, all hearing aids must be fit properly. That takes expertise by the fitter. They also must understand variables their patients have if something isn't working right.

After you developed hyperacusis did the person who fit those hearing aids try to make adjustments for you?

I bought expensive Jabra Enhance hearing aids as they were recommended for those with moderate to severe hearing loss and tinnitus. I've always had hyperacusis, like my mom, grandmother and daughter. At first I liked them as they were much sturdier than the ReSounds I had previously. But it seemed that no matter how I set the controls, being in ANY noisy place made it very difficult to hear conversations, and tinnitus would be worse afterwards. When I downloaded their app so I could control more things with my iphone, I noticed that I had to agree to certain terms before I could use those controls. Waaaay down at the bottom of these terms was the statement saying I was aware that these hearing aids could be problematic for people with hyperacusis ~ if the app picks up that the user is struggling to hear, it increases the volume, which can be uncomfortable and might make hearing worse. Buyer beware. The "hearing aid specialist" should have known that. Unfortunately, but the time I figured out what was going on and got an appointment with the specialist, the 100 day money back warranty had expired. Up the creek without a paddle, and I only use them for small gatherings in a quiet place or at appointments at the bank or a doctor, where I have to keep saying,"I'm sorry, could you please repeat that? I'm hard of hearing and these hearing aids don't work well with masks on and a plastic shield between us." We do what we have to do, but it's discouraging and sometimes anxiety provoking. Talking with soft voiced professional people who use speaker phones or less that stellar headsets is even worse. I have to have someone else talk to a person like that if it's important, and translate for me. Wishing everyone who struggles with hearing issues the best of luck. My compassion for those who deal with these issues is immense.

Yes but he said the volume was so low that I didn’t need the hearing aids. So I stopped using them and the hyperacusis stopped but the clogged feeling is still there. I hear everyone else fine but when I talk I notice the ear fullness and my voice sounds distant and muffled
