I have grown cynical about this. I think MDs do know about withdrawal and just don't care. I have often wondered if prescribing has some benefit to them, but again, I've become cynical.

I understand your cynicism, I have a huge amount of anger toward the medical community for what has been done to me. I think in my case, which is not unusual, there was an ongoing turnover in physicians, each one inheriting a patient on long term benzo. They likely knew the score, but didn't bother telling me or questioning the script, just kept renewing b/c they didn't want the enormous work of dealing with a frantic, sick, withdrawing benzo patient. So they just kept writing the script and passing the buck. And that's the true tragedy. Even if the original prescriber wasn't smart enough to know what she was doing, there had to have been at least one among those who came after her who knew what was happening and chose not to let me in on the secret. Lazy unethical cowards.
