Severe pain continues after gall bladder removal !
After dealing with episodes of severe abdominal pain for years, finally had my gallbladder removed. expecting to have condition resolved, but I continue to have severe, pain, 6 months after surgery. Doctors do not have any answers. My father and my grandmother had this pain and were pain free after removal of their gall bladder. I have a young family and full time job and am very active, but when I get these attacks of pain I am basically paralized. I cannot move. Nothing helps !
I just have to wait it out. Sometimes for hours. Has anyone found an answer to this situation.
Thank you

Look into Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. 9 months, severe pain.
I had severe pain caused by an over-full colon. Harsh laxative fixed it, but watch out for overdoing it. Can "backfire", pun intended. I am just beginning to learn how to manage it and I hope I catch on fast!
Good Luck to you !
Take it easy !
hlp123, how long do you! You think it takes to "get it"?
If you are referring to severe pain after removal of the gall bladder, I think that would vary with each individual.
It depends on the cause. If it is another blocked duct that could remain partially open and then blocked depending on when the stone moves. I wish every one with this situation well. It is very painful. From my first episode to now is more than four years. Several weeks after my gall bladder removal was when my pain came back.
Hlp123, thank you, that's discouraging to think the pain could return like that! I hope you get some resolution of that long-lived problem.
I'm afraid my thinking needs adjustment.
And I wish you more comfort soon!
I wish you well, and comfort soon.
My condition is resolved since I had the MRCP and the endoscopy to remove the remaining stone. I no longer have the painful episodes. My future is pain free.
All is well now, for me. I hope you are well and that you remain well. Best of Luck to you.
I am sorry for the confusion ! I did get resolution of the pain after I had the MRCP and the Endoscopic procedure that removed the remaining stone. I am pain free and my future will be pain free.
I hope you can find resolution as well.
Oh, good, I'm so glad to hear that outcome!
Thank you so much for clarifying and for the good wishes.
My gall bladder was removed about 10 years ago. If I take an opioid I get a false gall bladder attack. Very painful and lasts about a hour. When I tr to tell this to a doctor I see doubt. Would like to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I have taken opioids prior to the removal of the gall bladder with no problems.
