After a lot of trial and error. I discovered the best shoes for me are actually running shoes. Marathon runners like a lot of cushioning in their shoes and I find it helps my feet. I see someone replied about the Brooks shoes and I totally agree, I am currently wearing the Brooks Ghost 14 and they are very comfortable for me. Also try the New Balance More v4 shoes they are the max Fresh Foam X cushioned shoe. It's like walking on clouds.
Finally, look at the Ortho feet website. They have sneakers, slippers, socks and more for people with a variety of conditions. I hope this helps.

I, too, live in Brooks running shoes, although at 83, I'm not a runner. I wear Brooks Ghost and a different shoe with a bit more structure and support, the Brooks Adrenaline. Please go to http://www.brooksrunning.com and use their Shoe Finder, which is in the middle of the first page to come up. It will help you sort through their large selection of shoes. They do have a "If you're not happy, we're not happy," guarantee which allows a purchaser to return shoes, even those that have been worn, for up to 90 days. They do require an explanation of how the shoes didn't work out, and why the delay in returning them. I used that guarantee when I found that the size I'd worn for years was no longer an appropriate size for me, and I had two pair that were fairly new, had been worn, and that I could no longer wear.
