DCIS pathology

The "IS" in DCIS stands for in situ. If they found any invasive cancer, they probably want to check your sentinel lymph nodes. You will probably have an Oncotype Dx test to determine treatment since your cancer is ER+ PR+ and HER2-.

Biopsy pathology and surgical pathology can differ. It did with mine.

Do you mind sharing what your treatment was or are you still going through it

I am 9 years out. I had grade 3 invasive but low Oncotype so no chemo. Double mastectomy and 5 years aromatase inhibitor. Caught up on bones with meds afterwards. Good luck!

They will most likely check the sentinel nodes, which is just a few that your dcis would drain to directly. Luckily it doesn’t usually result in side effects.
Are you seeing the surgeon for a lumpectomy? Did your doctor order any other tests?

I had my surgery three months ago I had a lumpectomy the radiologist oncologist is the one that read my pathology so my surgeon where I live is doing the ultrasound guided biopsies

When I went down to Nuclear medicine for the dye to be injected. The dye did not highlight any of my nodes and the dye went under the skin.
I was told my sentinel nodes were are negative and I questioned that but never got an answer on how could they know for sure.
I just pray at every mammogram that it’s ok.
My HER2 was +.

Yes. That is exactly what happened to me. Except my initial biopsy said it was only pre-cancer, Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia.
2 months later I had my first surgery it came back as extensive, grade 2 DCIS and I also has a very rare invasive metaplastic Carcinoma right next to the DCIS.
I had the sentinel node biopsy surgery 28 days later.

you should still demand answers to your questions. Also, why the Technician did not insert the dye to where it should have gone. do not let these questions go unanswered. You are your best medical advocate.
