I have a pair of Birchbury Bramfords that I really like for driving and wearing when the weather is good. They are made in Vietnam and are a minimalist type shoe but comfortable with a wide toe box. You can take the insoles out and slip in an orthotic if needed.
https://birchbury.com/pages/bramford. I don't wear them if the weather is bad (snow, rain). They are a soft, smooth leather and water repellent but not water proof.

I just took a look at the birchbury. If one has problem of their foot slipping off the brake it seems the bottoms of these shoes won’t help this problem to be solved.
