Has Teriparatide changed your fingernails?

My fingernails are smoother, harder and more shinny since I started Forteo.

I’ve only taken Forteo for about one month.

My fingernails were thin and peeling before.

I’m wondering if fingernails are a window into bone quality.

Will the ridges disappear too?

My nails no longer split vertically and it is harder to clip them after several months on Forteo. It could be we are more diligent about taking calcium.

I’m sure it’s not calcium for me.

Do your nails have vertical ridges?

They do, but not deep ridges.

I’ve been on teriparatide for 8 months and my usually paper thin nails are now shiny and strong. The vertical ridges I’ve had for years have almost disappeared. I am also sure this isn’t from calcium supplements.

I’m on Tymlos (abaloparatide) and noticed pretty much the same thing—stronger nails. I can grow them nice and long now! Docs must have noticed this in patients because I found a study looking at whether nail health could be used as a noninvasive way of screening for osteoporosis. Alas,, the results were negative.

sherryld, my fingernails are stronger and are growing faster. I wasn't sure if it was the attention to calcium. Thanks for clarifying. I still have ridges at two years.

I haven't noticed any changes. Hoping, though!

I've been on Forteo for 3 months and a half dose of Tymlos for 10 months before that. My fingernails are worse than they were before the meds. This worries me, since so many have posted better fingernails. They now split, break off and two of them look crooked. I used to have healthy, beautiful nails.
