I have gotten the abdominal spasms since a couple of days after having my gall bladder out, which was now about 20 years ago. They are very severe!!! I do have to say that they have been more infrequent over the years. When it "hits," I do a twisting motion with my whole upper body to the right that really seems to help and breaks the spasm. This is from many years of experimenting when it happens. It may take a couple of minutes, but it really does work for me. I really do understand how severe and debilitating these are at the time. My doctor at the time didn't even seem to know what in the heck sphincter of Oddi was. Just from doing my research, I have determined on my own that that's what it is. I have never taken any meds for this, but I certainly don't begrudge any for taking them. It's so painful that we'll do anything. I only found my way of dealing with it was by trial and error at the time of the attack. I was writhing in pain, so I do understand exactly what anyone is going through.
