Has anyone successfully used chiropractor to repair hiatal hernia?

Posted by cmdw2600 @cmdw2600, Jan 28 9:35am

A friend who had a hiatal hernia said her chiropractor “fixed it” in one visit. I would be skeptical but her endoscopy the following year did not indict evidence of hiatal hernia.

Just wondering if anyone else has experience.

Thank you,
Cindy

I recently went through a whole slew of tests at a local chiropractor/ Functional medical Dr’s office .
I did tests that I didn’t even know existed along with lots of X-rays and lots of bloodwork ( the bloodwork done at a lab ).
When I went for my results, he went over everything w/ me . My gosh at 62 with all my 10 years of digestive disorders ( and after seeing 6 Gastro Dr’s having 7 diagnoses).. this guy made me feel like on was on deaths door at 62 .
His treatment plan was extensive and $9,600 .
I said , no thanks .
I went for a few adjustments and the machine that vibrates your back and neck that my insurance paid and I paid $22 co pay .
I no longer go .
I still suffer greatly but I don’t think anything he was offering would change that .

Hi Rozy,
I believe you've made the right choice by not letting this chiro-man suck the money out of your pocket.
Have you ever had an MRI done of your back? No matter how experienced a doctor is, without advanced scanning tools the diagnostic is only guessing work. If you'll decide to do an MRI, make sure you'll tell them that you do not want to be injected with a contrast die. After you find out what's really wrong with you, thread carefully... I found yoga exercises very helpful.
I Wish you speedy recovery!

I agree with you. I think they do a lot of damage.

I certainly didn’t mean to start controversy on this forum. Obviously there are folks who don’t believe chiropractors can provide benefit, but I have numerous friends who feel that their particular chiropractor is a life saver.

To each his own!

Cindy,
I do believe that working with a good Chiropractor is some cases is beneficial, he could teach you how to maintain an aligned and balanced body.

Biomechanics is the study of continuum mechanics (that is, the study of loads, motion, stress, and strain of solids and fluids) of biological systems and the mechanical effects on the body's movement, size, shape and structure.

Understanding the mechanical properties of these internal structures will enable physiotherapists to evaluate causes of injury that are movement-related, and more importantly, how to prevent it.
A Chiropractor isn’t qualified to diagnose or try to manipulate hiatal hernias or other internal organs ailments which far surpass a chiropractor’s qualifications and competence.

I’ve had MRI w/o contrast recently.
I have so many different gastrointestinal diagnoses, they don’t know what to do to help me anymore after 10 years.
I’m a medical mystery. It’s horrible!

What’s wrong with a contrast dye? Sometimes this is a much needed diagnostic tool.

I went to a chiropractor in Naperville, IL who practiced "structured rehabilitation". Yeah he'd do the occasional adjustments and back cracking, but then he'd put me in what I can only describe as "backwards traction". I'd lie on my back on a hard table with knees bent up. He would put something under my lumbar spine to support its natural curve, and he's put a low hurdle under my cervical spine (neck) and lightly restrain my head tilting back.

I'd stay in that position for 15 minutes and did it 3x week. It was uncomfortable and I'd have to be assisted up when done, but these sessions were slowly getting my spine back to the correct alignment.

I don't live there anymore and haven't found any chiropractor who does this, but it was amazing.

Hello

I have a what was referred to as a moderately large hiatus hernia
with a Schatzki ring…which causes GERD … I use Aciphex 20 mg twice a day to alleviate the symptoms and cut down of acid reflux … I have not heard of a hiatus hernia going away…but in the past, I’ve had told that surgery is something they try to treat with PPI’s and other medications before surgery…bless you and have a good day 🙏 pvctom
