Creatine
Sorry does creatine have negative effects for someone on ADT therapy for prostate cancer?
"Enhanced creatine uptake drives prostate cancer progression " https://aacrjournals.org/cancerres/article/82/14/2565/706947/Cyclocreatine-Suppresses-Creatine-Metabolism-and
I found this statement near the end of the above referenced article:
"In prostate cancer, the concept of resistance training is being considered to tackle androgen deprivation therapy induced loss of lean body mass. Hence, creatine supplementation is studied as an ongoing lifestyle intervention in a clinical trial for prostate cancer (19). Our observation of increased cellular proliferation in tumors from Ptenpc−/− Spry2pc−/−mice following creatine supplementation for only eight weeks highlights the need to assess creatine supplementation in patients with prostate cancer with caution. "
Translation: these researchers studied creatine metabolism in tumors cells of mice which had been bred to have prostate cancer. They found creatine enhanced the growth (proliferation) of tumor cells in the mice. They also note that cyclocreatine suppresses this effect. They suggest adding creatine to a regime of weight lifting to counter the effects of androgen deprivation therapy may be counter-productive.
This is consistent with studies showing cyclocreatine has a suppressive effect on certain breast and colon cancers (https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-clinic-researchers-identify-a-potential-new-approach-to-treat-her2-positive-breast-cancer/).
I am not familiar with cyclocreatine as a supplement, its effects other than that noted above. I am also unaware of human studies of its use in prostate cancer. However, there does seem to be a potential for its use as an adjunct to treatment, especially after surgery with undetectable PSA. Worth keeping an eye on.
NB: "Creatine" and "cyclocreatine" are two distinctly different things, which may have opposite effects on prostate cancer cells.
Thank you for taking the time to answer!
